The location is great for getting around Kyoto and doing day trips to nearby cities (Osaka, Nara…), since it’s located right by a JR train station and only one stop away from the main Kyoto train station. If you have one of the Japan Rail Passes (like we did) this makes it very convenient and economic for getting around. The hotel has a refined and above average interior decoration design: the color palette, fabric choices and balance between contemporary style with traditional references are beautifully done. The rooms are large for Japanese standards and come with the loveliest kimono style pyjama sets to wear while relaxing in your room. Breakfast is great with a large selection of both Western and Japanese foods. In the evening you can enjoy the in hotel exclusive to guests onsen hot baths and sauna - a really great way to relax and recuperate after a day of sightseeing! We went every evening. There are also several in hotel restaurants and very nearby food choices. For families with kids there’s a great park just a couple minutes away, as well as the Kyoto Railway museum right beside! Highly recommended and we will definitely stay again next time we’re in Kyoto.

Bathroom facilities are shared, and the public baths are open 16:00-22:00 and 06:00-09:00 daily. Staying at Eko-in was an exceptional and unforgettable experience. I highly recommend booking the Okunoin cemetery night tour—it was both atmospheric and deeply moving. The meals are fully vegetarian and beautifully presented. If you're not a fan of tofu, some of the dinner dishes might not be to your taste—but that, too, is part of the cultural and spiritual experience. I was initially anxious about sleeping on a traditional futon, but it turned out to be surprisingly comfortable and added to the overall sense of authenticity. A truly unique stay.

The property is situated 1.3 km from Shoren-in Temple, 2 km from Kiyomizu-dera Temple and 2 km from Kyoto International Manga Museum. The hotel features a hot tub, room service and free WiFi throughout the property. We stayed there for only one night and wished if it could have been more. Totally loved the place. Centrally located in Kyoto. Minutes walking to the best spots in town. Just cross the street for a metro station and a bus stop. Overlooking the river. Regarding our room it was huge compared to hotels in Japan, our bathroom had a hot tub, pyjamas (kimono style), definitely a Japanese styled bidet and a very large TV screen. They allow luggage storage before check in and after check out. Decent staff. Totally recommended

Some units in the ryokan have private entrance and are equipped with wardrobe and tatami. Units are complete with a private bathroom, while certain units at the ryokan also provide guests with a seating area. The room was very cosy and comfortable. Perfect for unwinding after busy days of sightseeing and crowds. The bath does wonders for tired legs from walking. The room is stocked with an assortment of free drinks and traditional snacks are provided in the lobby. The location is great, only a 10 minute walk from Kyoto station and close to other public transport. We walked to most of the main attractions. The staff was very helpful and everyone spoke very good English so it was easy to communicate. Our breakfast was cooked with care each morning, making it a great start of each day. We would definitely come back!
