Wilmer and his team went above and beyond to make our stay exceptional. They were very kind, attentive and thoughtful, and even helped my friend to find a special medical device. Casa Montalvo is located in the beautiful old town of Cuenca, making it easy to explore the surrounds on foot. The breakfasts were delicious, and different each day. The courtyard garden is lovely. 100% recommend.

    Incredible paramo environment with spectacular vegetation...

    Incredible paramo environment with spectacular vegetation and some really incredible plants that thrive in the hostile environment. Some good walking tracks start at the visitor centre and cafe (some great potato soup) and take you to the stunning lakes that dot the park. Cajas NP is on the main road from Cuenca to Guayaquil and is easily accessible by public bus from Cuenca main bus station and takes under an hour. For the return wait across the road from visitor centre and hail a passing bus - be prepared to wait as many buses are full.

    Astounding place.

    Astounding place. Even with rain and cold it was amazing to hike and see so many cool little lakes and landscapes. I hiked for about 6 hours, on the routes #1 and then #2. Pretty well marked, but better to go with maps.me on your phone to make sure you don't lose your markers. And so many more hikes available, will have to return for more.
