Machines of the Isle of Nantes

Nantes’ industrial past whirs to life in a collection of mechanical creations on the banks of the Loire. Set on the site of the city’s former shipyards, this steampunk wonderland has to be seen to be believed. Where else can you ride a giant steel elephant or a three-tiered carousel filled with fantastical sea creatures?

Very good, watching the Elephant move around the site was fun. The Carousal was good if you enjoy seeing things move and can interact. The narration in the galleries was in French mostly but the machines spoke for them selves. Would i go again? YES

This attraction was our entire purpose for coming to Nantes, at the request of our teen son. We were disappointed to not get to ride the elephant. It would have been wise to make purchase our entrance and book a ride 48 hours in advance, since the website does not allow reservations in less time than that. It was delightful, but very busy in August. We had to wait in line to purchase entrance to the machines for over an hour shortly after they opened. There was no to-go coffee anywhere nearby to make the wait more relaxed. Definitely use the App and scan for information in English, all the guides' information is in French.

A stunning place to visit for children and adults alike.

A stunning place to visit for children and adults alike. Intriguing moving sculptures with working mechanisms that can be seen, studied and marvelled at. What’s best is that the pieces are interactive and have the wow factor. Try not to do too much research before you do that the surprises are there to experience first hand.
