Durham Cathedral is one of my favourite cathedrals in the world, a magnificent example of Norman (English Romanesque) architecture. I've been several times and never tire of it. The location is amazing, too, on a hill with the castle opposite, and the river far below.

    One of my favourite cathedrals.

One of my favourite cathedrals. If you want a guided tour, which I recommend, try and have Alan as your guide. He is so very knowledgeable and has a wonderful sense of humour. I tried to book a ticket and/or tour of the castle, but it was closed for private functions, like weddings, for both the days I was in Durham. Early booking is obviously the answer! Walk through town was also good.

    What a building!

What a building! We don't like being charge to enter God's house so were pleasantly surprised to be asked, with no pressure, for a donation which we were delighted to do. It was certainly the highlight of your short visit to Durham

Attraction was that parking was available, and safe, and the location was a pleasant 15-20 minute walk to Durham Cathedral and Castle. The Cathedral was magnificent - please do the tour, it's work every penny. Back to accommodation - we stayed 1x night on a last minute deal so price point was good. It suited our purposes very well in terms of location and parking. The evening meal was better than the usual bar food and breakfast was ok.

It was much bigger than expected. Very well equipped for making family dinners. Lots of towels. Two pillows in each bed. Been thoughtfully kitted out. We are a family of four. Two boys age 5 and 9. We visited Diggerland, Beamish and Durham Cathedral. A fantastic trip.

The location was fantastic. Durham Cathedral was within easy walking distance. The food was very good indeed, and the staff efficient and delightful. We were stopping overnight en route to Cambridge from Scotland, and will certainly do so again.

A very enjoyable stay. The Kingslodge Inn is located in a quiet leafy location with an outdoor area where it is lovely to sit and listen to birdsong whilst enjoying a beverage and meal. It was within easy walking distance to the Durham Cathedral and Castle. Our room was clean, the bed was comfortable and the water was hot. Breakfasts and evening meals were excellent and staff were all lovely. Good car parking. Will stay again.

Excellent location; our room overlooked the river with a great view of Durham Cathedral. It was a short walk into the city centre, albeit our room was very quiet at night time. We drank at the hotel bar, Josef’s, which was lovely & able to sit outside by the river, or inside as the weather went cooler. After a few busy days of walking we even used the hotel swimming pool, sauna & steam room. Again, everything was brilliant & staff were helpful & attentive throughout. Would certainly recommend this hotel.

Brand newly refurbished room, huge super size king bed, very quiet on the river, view of the cathedral was lovely. Restaurant very good value for dinner- huge portions and Northern prices 20% off London: featherblade beef with all the trimmings, £19.99, Salmon stir fry with egg noodles £22, large cocktails £12. Breakfast less attractive at £25 each fixed price, so we went out / Treats in town was amazing. Durham Cathedral was incredible- book the tour- well worth it!
