It was great to stay in such an old building, 700 years old. The hotel has heaps of character, not a straight wall, door or floor in the place, very special. The staff and food were great

I confess that the idea of having to pay for entry into a church has always seemed off-putting. However; Salisbury Cathedral is a genuinely fascinating building and distinctive among cathedrals for it's tall spire. Furthermore it houses the Magna Carta (one of 4 remaining original copies) and even the Refectory (restaurant) was lovely. We spent quite a few hours looking at it all and I now have to re-assess my opinion of paying for entry into a church. TL/DR: You should probably visit.

    Great cathedral to visit.

Great cathedral to visit. Would recommend to take the trip up in ceiling and tower, you get a great perspective on how it was built. Wonderful views of the area at the top. Also make time to have lunch or bowl of soup from the cathedral cafe, sit out in the cathedral court yard enjoying the quiet and the surroundings. Nice place to visit

The Cathedral is a "must-see" on a visit to Salisbury.

The Cathedral is a "must-see" on a visit to Salisbury. There's so much of religious interest, including the spectacular modern font, as well as the many features of historical interest in the building's 800+ year history, the highlight of which must be the Magna Carta. The £11 entrance fee allows you at least one free return visit within a year 😊

    Fantastic Place.

Fantastic Place. So glad we returned to Salisbury thirty years later for a tour. Make reservations for the tower tour! My husband Sam thought it was the pinnacle of our entire three week trip! Do not miss the cleanest clearest remaining copy of the Magna Carta displayed in this cathedral that until the 1950s was just "lying around" the offices. It was not known to be valuable back in that era.. It had very tiny writing, but was definitely legible. So thankful it was preserved.

Free entry during a service, but you do not get access to the whole cathedral. Outside of the cathedral is free at all times of the day. Parking is £8 all day, but you can find cheaper parking elsewhere but still within walking distance of the cathedral. If you do pay to go into the cathedral, make sure you visit the chapter room, which contains the only surviving copy of the original Magna Carta.

If you can tolerate endless, somewhat claustrophobic spiral staircases, the Salisbury Cathedral special tower tour is well worth it. You'll get a serious and scholarly look at medieval construction from the inside.
