Acropolis

Long before it became known as Bloomfield Falls, this magnificent waterfall was called Wujal Wujal by the indigenous Kuku Yalanji people. Hire a guide and learn why these people still consider Wujal Wujal to be sacred. Or just head down with your 4x4 and a picnic hamper, and have lunch in serious style!

Go before sunset to the 6-7.30pm time slot and watch the sun go down. September is the perfect month. Wear non slip shoes. You can buy e-tickets at the bottom. If you travel on the train, take the Acropolis station. Shorter walk from there. Take water with you. Take lots of photos. This attraction is one of our world’s wonders not to be missed!! There is also a small ceremony taking the flag down before closing time.

10/10 for such a perfect location. Walking distance to great bars and restaurants and the Acropolis plus handy for the Metro. Supermarket just a minute walk away. Apartment was modern, comfortable, with good furnishings and decor. Would return if ever in Athens again. Attentive hosts who were in regular contact via WhatsApp to ensure our stay was good.

The place was clean, tidy and in an excellent location. Whilst the apartment was on the first floor, there is a lift saving you to carry your bags. It is a good place to stay for a couple. Easy walking distance (7 minutes) from the Athens Metro if you catch a train from the airport. A short walk 7-8 minutes to the South Entry to the Acropolis. Overall it was an very comfortable and would stay again.

I had an amazing stay at this apartment in Athens! The location in Koukaki is just perfect – close to the Acropolis and all the great cafés and restaurants. The master bedroom is spacious, plus there’s a second bedroom, which makes it perfect for friends or family. The huge balcony was such a highlight – I loved spending time there. The apartment is modern, very comfortable and has everything you need. And the manager was simply wonderful – so kind, responsive and helpful. Highly recommend, I’d definitely stay here again!

The location is spectacular, the view of the Acropolis is spectacular and you are well placed for visiting the latter as well as many of the great museums in Athens. Our host, Alex, could not have been more kind and welcoming, with valuable tips about where to eat and shop. There is a lot of space in the apartment with great facilities - we were only there for two nights so did not have use for things like the washing machine and dishwasher, but I'd go back for a longer stay very happily

Amazing location, within easy walking distance of all the sights and nice areas of Athens with cafes and restaurants. Quiet area. Incredible view of the Acropolis from the lovely roof top terrace. Spacious apartment with plenty of sitting areas. Having two toilets was good with 5 people. Nice touch having breakfast foods and coffee provided. We hope to stay again!

Go beyond the Acropolis and explore the Agora and Kerameikos, imagining yourself entering Athens along the road from the port of Piraeus, and following the Panathenaic Way to the Akropolis. Stop at the museums along the way to understand the significance of each site. Then visit the National Archaeological Museum to see that classical Athens is just one of Greece's many magnificent cultures.

If you want to avoid crowds while seeing the famous sights, start out early and be at the sights when they open. I arrived at the Acropolis around 8:10 AM and there were only around 20 people on the whole compound. It was wonderful! There was a crowd climbing the hill when I descended, though!

  • Consider visiting Athens in May or September.

Consider visiting Athens in May or September. May is just lovely. Spring flowers like poppies and daisies cover the hills. It's not too busy and not too hot. Remember that on holidays you are always moving so consider the weather when you make your plans. Also, research opening hours as the Acropolis is closed May 1; and other Ancient Landmarks are closed on certain days and on certain hours any other day.
