This is a very interesting church - Michaelangelo is buried in the church, as well as a number of other famous people. The Giotto paintings on the altar are fabulous. It has a number of buildings to look through - all interesting.

In my opinion this is one of the most important destinations and one of the more overlooked in Florence. The art is so representative of the evolution of Renaissance painters and the who's who of famous people buried there. Just amazing!

A basilica worth visiting. 16 euro's for 2 adults but we would have paid double that. Important people to the city of florence, from the past, are buried there. Some chapels also and a small garden. Men are asked to take off their hats, caps.

    This is such a gem!

This is such a gem! It costs 8€ but absolutely worth it and it's much bigger on the inside than it looks from outside! Contains tombs and memorials for people that everyone will know - Michelangelo, Galileo Galilei and Machiavelli. There's a plaque on the wall leaving the church grounds commemorating Florence Nightingale who was born in the city.

There are many beautiful churches in Florence but the Basilica of Santa Croce was probably our favorite. It included several monuments and tombs, including the tombs of Michelangelo, Galileo Galilei, and Machiavelli. San Lorenzo, the oldest church in Florence, was also beautiful and included a free audio guide that helped you to understand the history of the church.

  • Hands down favorite is the church of Santa Croce.

Hands down favorite is the church of Santa Croce. The spirit of the artists & philosophers from the 13th - 16th centuries is alive and well, as well as the Santa Croce Leather workshop the monks created.

There are so many churches and the biggest is Santa Croce where all the "celebrities" are buried. This is lovely but actually I preferred the smaller medieval church that used to be a grain store Orsanmichele .
