The location was fantastic. The rooms were clean, modern and minimalistic but very cozy and comfortable. The raised platform was helpful to organise luggage and warm clothes. Room was very clean. The free drinks in the lounge were a very nice touch as there’s not much to do in takayama in the evening. Restaurants close early so one has to have early dinner. So liked handing out in the lounge with drinks after a long day. Did not have the breakfast so can’t comment but the place is so well located that there are so many good options around. don’t understand why western people would order breakfast expecting western breakfast and then complain they didn’t like it

Staying at a temple was unique experience. The rooms were beautiful in traditional Japanese style. The fold out beds had an extra mattress and were very comfortable. The view of the garden was lovely and relaxing. We participated in morning prayer and also a meditation session. Both are highly recommended. We also recommend the small breakfast restaurant across the street for toast and pancakes. The place is run by an adorable elderly couple.

Hida Minzoku Mura Folk Village

This open-air museum gives a taste of traditional life in Japan’s mountainous Hida region. Dating back to the Edo Period, the village’s historic wooden houses were relocated here in 1971. Today they provide a snapshot of centuries-old architecture and perfectly preserved living quarters, while the on-site craft centre lets you make your own souvenirs based on typical local methods.

    Loved it！

    Loved it！ We missed the last bus back but if you have portable wifi and Google maps it’s a 40 min walk. The walk was really worth it and there’s a sushi restaurant on the way which is popular with locals.
