Best thing was the no shoes policy - it was very nice and comfy to walk around in barefoot or in socks. Pajamas very also comfy and made the whole exprience very homely. The room and entire hotel had nice decorations which was nice. Typically Japanese hotels tend to be quite plain. Visited 7 different hotels during my stay in Japan and this was by far the best one.

The location was excellent. It pretty close to the train station and the neighborhoods around the hostel were great for walking around. The facilities were excellent and our host was great. We got our own room which was quiet and spacious. Showers were good. The kitchen was super cute and there was a bunch of local recommendations provided. Lots of signs up about keeping noise down which was nice.

Location is excellent, you can walk from and to the train station in 10 minutes. Another big plus is that the hotel has a laundry room on 2 floors, and you can use the tv in your room to check the status of each washing machine. That includes when you have put your laundry in, the tv in your room will show the remaining time of your wash. Very practical, I wish all hotels had this. The bed is firm and comfortable. I had a room on a high floor with an excellent view of the city and the mountains on the horizon. And the room is very clean! The reception is on the second floor, so once you are checked in you don't have to deal with them again until check-out. You can just take the elevator from the ground floor to your room and vice versa without passing reception. I didn't take the breakfast option so I can't comment on that, but from what I say it's basically a Gusto establishment, which I do have some experience with, and it's as good as what you can expect for breakfast in Japan.

Internal Wooden structure. Information about Nihon’s feudal-Shogunate-agrarian era. Comparable to Islamic and European feudal-warrior states. People are basically the same. Different languages, beliefs, cuisines, … But human nature is same with the same problems. Same solutions too if the people in power are willing to change.

This hotel was really comfortable and pretty close to both the bus/train terminal and Matsumoto castle. Breakfast is not included, but it was really good, it had both western and Japanese options. Open Bath was really good too.

Nice, clean hotel with free toiletries and welcome drinks. Convenient to get to transportation and only a 15 min walk to Matsumoto Castle. Very friendly staff as well.

Loved Matsumoto and this hotel. The staff were kind and accommodating. The location is a few blocks from Matsumoto Castle. My first day, I got there just in time for sunset at the castle. Pretty special. On my last day, there was a vintage market over by Frog Street, the shopping street, which is also close by. The city history museum, a block away, was fantastic as was the city art museum. The breakfast service was the best I had on my trip.

Probably my favorite hostel while traveling in Japan. It's located very close to Matsumoto castle, as well as a lot of restaurants. The staff was extremely nice, making me feel welcome from start to finish. There is a bar and communal location, perfect for socializing, especially if you're a solo traveler.

The room is spacious and the ryokan style beds are comfortable. location is great. You can easily walk to explore Matsumoto castle and surrounding areas. The staffs were friendly and super helpful. We arrived on the rainy evening and the free shuttle bus from matsumoto station to the hotel was a life-saver. Breakfast is delicious with plenty of Japanese option. If I have a chance to visit Matsumoto again I'll definitely stay here again!!!

As we were only in Matsumoto for one night, and went for a cheaper hotel, I was pleasantly surprised by how nice this hotel was! From the short easy walk from the bus/train station, to the lovely staff at reception, to the great sized comfortable room, it was all fabulous. It was an easy walk to Matsumoto Castle and nearby tourist attractions. Definitely recommend this hotel if you have a night or two in Matsumoto!

We really enjoyed the breakfast and the onsen. The staff were very helpful and the hotel provides numerous amenities. It’s in a great location, near the train station, and Matsumoto Castle.

Very close to train station (less than 5-min walk). Quite a distance to Matsumoto castle. But the hotel has a bicycle (first come, first get basis). Good amenities from DHC. Common Microwave corner with hot/cold water machine, ice machine and japanese books for guests. Available onsen with clear instruction. Friendly and helpful staff.

I realize it's stated clearly here, but I was not prepared for how large this space actually is! It is a former hostel which could easily house 10-15 people across multiple bedrooms and you get to rent the whole thing! It has an unheard-of amount of space for lodging in Japan, and it also happens to be within view of Matsumoto Castle and within easy walking distance to the main draws of Matsumoto city. Definitely don't pass on this option if you are traveling with a large family. We were sad to check out.

The hotel is super clean with the entire building shoeless so you can walk bare feet on tatami floors. The hotel staff even cleaned our luggage wheel. The onsen was very nice and had all the amenities needed. We also enjoyed the Japanese style breakfast very much with lots of selections. Photos of the room from the website matches what we see in the room which is very good. The sightseeing places are all within walking distance, the Matsumoto castle, the old heritage street… there’s also many good restaurants near by.
