The hotel is close by the Cathedral and since I’m walking the Camino, it’s the most convenient location for me. A special mention for the Guest Experience Manager , Rogerio and his team, they really go all out to make sure whatever your request is, there are there to help you out and make it happen.

D. Luis I Bridge

When completed in 1886, the Dom Luís I Bridge had the world’s longest iron arch that today stretches across the Douro River like a cobalt-blue rainbow. From the Ribeiro neighborhood, walk across the lower deck to take in the river. At Gaia, you can head to the upper deck on a cable car and walk back across at a height of almost 200 feet.

Its absolutely wonderful.

Its absolutely wonderful. The upper level is for trams and pedestrians, the lower level for traffic and pedestrians. Amazing views of the river and cities from here, especially at night. The bridge itself is a beautiful construction and is one of the best highlights of the city.

Old bridge with an interesting history.

Old bridge with an interesting history. The bridge serves two purposes. Motor vehicles can cross the bridge between the cities of Porto and Gaia from the lower level closer to the river. Pedestrians can also use the bridge along narrow sidewalks. Often times the pedestrians spill into the traffic lanes. The upper level is reserved for the Metro and pedestrians. You will find great views of the Douro river, the cities of Porto and Gaia, and fantastic sunsets.

It was a marvel.

It was a marvel. Crossed it a few times to go to Gaia and back. Walking from Riberio to the top half is a challenge if you are up for it. If not, you can take the gondola ride to the top. Awesome views from the bridge

We walked to the right of the bridge on Ribeira side and took Funicular to the top for euros 2.50 PP. From there, we walked down the hill to our right and took a left, walking right onto the bridge....nice for picture taking. At the end is a big park where people sit at sunset for a gorgeous view.

Definately worth a visit, just cause. Historical.

Definately worth a visit, just cause. Historical. Impressive. Central. Main bridge; iconic. We walked across it several times and enjoyed our boat cruise going under it and seeing the other few bridges too.
