I’d offer an 11th star if Booking.com would let me. The Myoko Ski Lodge is perfectly located and a lovely residence, but the hosts – Geoff and Tania – are what made this a truly amazing trip for us. This was our first time skiing in Japan, and we could not have picked a better spot to stay. It’s walkable to an Akakura Onsen chairlift as well as the free shuttle stop that can take you to Akakura Kanko. The hosts helped us with transport and gear rental on our first day, allowing us to hit the slopes quickly and easily. They also helped the two non-skiers in our group set up interesting activities for the week. Our rooms were very comfortable for our family of five, breakfast was plentiful, and the onsen (natural hot springs) on the first floor were the perfect way to end a day of skiing. The town is lovely, not too big, not too small, and plenty of easy dining options. We were a tiny bit leery of the shared spaces when we booked (as we treasure our privacy), but I’m convinced this is THE way to go for a ski vacation. We made some great friends on the trip and it was so nice to hang out around the fire and share stories over a drink or two with other guests. The kids had a blast and we all enjoyed playing games in the play area/den. It truly felt like a home away from home. I thought a Japan ski trip might be a one-time experience, but I’m convinced that THIS is the way to ski – zero lines, great snow, good food, small town (non-commercialized) feel, onsens, and hosts who seemingly live to share this great experience with their guests. We will be back for sure!

The family room we stayed in was comfortable and clean. Good size with tatami floor beds in one room and western beds in the other room. Free breakfast was provided which was perfect before a day of skiing. Loved the common lounge/ dining/ bar area, it was a great place to hang out. The common dry room was convenient for storing ski gear and laundry room was useful too.
Staff were amazing- always happy to help. Thank you to Jeff, Miyu and team.

Located in Myoko and only 46 km from Ryuoo Ski Park, Arai Villa Myoko provides accommodation with garden views, free WiFi and free private parking. This lodge is 23 km from Lake Nojiri and 42 km from Lake Hokuryuko. The house was spacious and comfortably furnished. The beds were very comfortable with high quality linen. The villa is close to Lotte Arai resort (about 5 minute drive) and the managers of the villa were extremely helpful in arranging transport for our group with a neighbour, who was charming and helpful. The manager also arranged dinner for us at a local restaurant which usually only offers lunch and this was a very special experience for us. The drying room was excellent for our ski gear. From the house are views of the surrounding rice fields and up to the mountains.

What an amazing experience staying at Tsubame Highland Lodge. The owner of the lodge might be the best Japanese person I’ve ever met - so lovely and helpful and friendly. The Onsen - a mix of cold and hot has also been my favourite of the trip. And the view of the trees and the snow from our room and lodge made it the most perfect cosy stay.
Close proximity to town and lifts, great lodge feel, friendly staff, lovely rooms. I would definitely stay again. I loved the family bedroom great mountain view. Thanks all for making our stay lovely. Best espresso martini’s in Myoko.
In my 36 years of life I’ve never experienced such awe and inspiration in the form of accomodation. Staying at Morino Lodge was like being hugged by a large giant cat whispering fairy tales in my ear. I endeavour with all my might every day to return.
The staff at Myoko Forest Lodge were exceptional. They cooked great food, had excellent tips and advice about the area including good info on where the best snow might be found. We were treated like VIPs by everyone. The beds were super warm and cozy and the inhouse bath was divine.
Great hospitality, lovely lodge, home cooked meals were delicious, everything was literally onpoint! Best kept secret is their craft cola - be sure to order a Hare Cola soda after a long day at the slopes
We couldn’t have wished for better hosts. With an easy going attitude they have made this an unforgettable stay! Lisa knows all the good restaurants in town and organizes some really cool day trips! Dave showed us very cool off-piste runs in all of the nearby resorts 👍🏽 There is a courtesy bus for pick-ups at the resorts and restaurants. The lodge is really cozy and our beds where very comfortable. See you soon!
Midori the owner was amazing and really helpful, also very funny and great cook. Good location, 10 min walk to Kanko skifield and the township, bus stop 260m away which had shuttles going to a variety of skifields including Kanko, Lotte Aria and more. But even still the lodge provides a free shuttle to the local close ski fields and train station.
Location, beautiful family run lodge, bit of age (8 generations) but warm, cozy, friendly, well located, very welcoming, amazing dinners& breakfasts. Excellent value. ❤️
Friendly family run lodging. Two little onsen bathrooms you can use privately, one with lie-down onsen. Comfortable beds and cozy room with living area in room. Green tea and hot water to drink. Lodge manager offered to pick us up from train station and dropped us off at bus station when leaving. Would definitely stay here again and recommend others to too.
