We had a wonderful stay at Mackenzie Suites in Tekapo — it was by far the best accommodation we experienced during our South Island trip. The private garage on the ground floor was such a thoughtful touch, especially during heavy snow. We were amazed to find our own name displayed above the garage — what a warm welcome! The host even waited for us at the door in the snow and kindly helped reverse the car into the garage to ensure our safety. Upstairs, the suite was spacious, modern, and filled with natural light. The panoramic lake and snow views from the three-sided floor-to-ceiling windows were absolutely breathtaking — we could have spent the whole day just soaking it in. The kitchen was fully equipped, the washing and drying facilities were excellent, and we even found a dedicated iPad with curated local recommendations for food and activities in Tekapo. One of the best surprises: a 12:00 noon checkout — the only one out of the 12 hotels we stayed in across the South Island. That extra time made such a difference and truly shows the thoughtfulness behind every detail. Highly recommended.

Booked last minute due to a road closure so wasn’t sure what to expect, but it was amazing! Loads of space, comfy beds, great location with an amazing view. Owners are so lucky to have this property it’s just stunning! Couldn’t recommend more it was definitely worth the money.

Hayden was so kind as to let us check in earlier on a rainy day (as there wasn’t anyone else staying in our designated apartment the night earlier). Location of the apartment was an easy 5-10 min walk to the town centre and lakefront. Apartment was a really good size and had everything we need (aircon/heater, beautiful kitchen, great views from the balcony, comfy bed, tv with Netflix etc etc).

Loved the whole house. The water pressure was fabulous and having 3 toilets was great. Sofas were very comfy and it had a great kitchen with a Mitsubishi fridge that made ice, great addition! I have to say we also met the owners family, who were lovely and very welcoming. They let us inspect the other smaller unit so we could see if it would suit our needs at a later date.

    This was a great place to stay. We were met on arrival by the very friendly host and shown the suite. Exceptionally comfortable and luxurious. Everything you could hope for was here (including a luxury bath tub!). The washer and drier for laundry was a great bonus and again worked well. The sofa was comfortable. The bed also very comfortable with the bedding also feeling very luxurious. Finally, the view! We sat outside on the terrace, looking at a beautiful garden with a fantastic view of Lake Tekapo beyond it. Amazing.
