The host was very welcoming, the rooms were nice, clean and for Japan pretty big. The kitchen had everything we needed. Mikawa is a pretty but very small and quite city, the house was conveniently located close to the train station.

From the 31st of December to 2nd of January 2024 I stayed in this hotel. It was an unfortunate time, due to the Noto Peninsula Earthquake. All I can say is that the staff did an exceptionally good job of making feel us relaxed and safe. Especially Tsue-san helped me and my friend (both of us are foreigners) a lot. I am glad to meet him and the other staff in this hotel. My overall review is very positive, the breakfast was delicious and filling. The rooms were very clean. My room was a bit small but for one person, it was more than enough. The hotel is at the center and within walking distance of tourist attractions (castle, Kenroku-en, samurai district...) and lots of fun bars.

The food was most definitely a highlight—both dinner and breakfast were exceptional kaiseki-style meals, using local ingredients from the Kanazawa region. The staff were incredibly kind, patient, and helpful all throughout—even despite my limited Japanese! And the onsen was also a wonderful experience; my mother and I were able to have a private onsen/bath experience, since there were few guests. I loved how immersed in nature the ryokan was as well—it felt otherworldly.

Motoyu Ishiya is a slice of the past waiting for you to experience it. The property carried with it the atmosphere of older Japanese times be it the location, the polite formality of the staff or then classic architecture of the Ryokan. The room experienced had a garden view which in the recent snow had magnificent views. the dark sulphurous waters of the Ibsen (hot spring) were refreshing and nicely hot the food was plentiful and delicious.
