Winter is the off season and we got a fantastic last minute deal here in mid January. Comfortable rooms with enough space for a family of 4 including 2 teenagers. The traditional meals were a feast for the senses, though a little challenge for the teens. A minimum western menu at least for breakfast would have been a welcome addition. But all in all, a glorious unexpected stay!

This place is superb. It was the best sleep in 5 weeks in Japan, the outdoors private thermal bath was excellent, the food was beautiful, they accomadated me being vegetarian. The onsens were great, outdoor ones being hotter than indoors. The national park it's in is beautiful. The staff are amazing, just delightful.

We enjoyed our stay at Kanaya Hotel Kinugawa. The hotel is well maintained and the staff are all very friendly and helpful and tried their best to ensure that you have an enjoyable stay. We would like to especially thank Emi from the Teppanyaki restaurant for going out of her way to prepare for us the transportation information to get to Chuzenji Lake, our destination the next day. Also, thank you to Fuchigami san who made us feel very welcome and picked us up & dropped us off at the train station (although it was a short distance from the hotel).

Onsen is clean with natural spacious, clean, well equipped, spacious, comfortable bed and room, excellent traditional kaiseki breakfast and dinner are excellent and delicious, the hospitality of all staff was excellent.

This was our first visit to Japan. My friends recommended this place specifically because it has a homely atmosphere. The owner gave us a short tour and took us to Toshogu Shrine. Dinner and breakfast were great! I’m very uncomfortable that we weren’t able to eat everything because the dishes were unusual for us =(

Our stay was exceptional thanks to the hotel team. We came to celebrate the birthday of one of our own, and the staff went out of their way to make it incredible. Special mention: when booking, we asked if it was possible to prepare a birthday cake. The hotel staff went out of their way to deliver a magnificent cake for our meal. Overall, the hotel's facilities are very pleasant, the rooms very clean and the staff very attentive. If we ever come back to Nikkō, we'll definitely stay at this hotel again! We can only recommend the hotel!

The room was big enough not to feel cramped, it had everything we required. The onsen was nice and warm, and the provided hygiene products were good quality. Although it was fully booked, since it was open to midnight it never felt crowded. I loved the fact that they provided us with all the amenities we needed during our stay on the first day (multiple bath robes, towels, etc...)
