This guesthouse is located along one of the Kumano Kodo Pilgrimage Routes and Yunomine Hot Spring, said to be one of the oldest hot springs baths in Japan, is a 5-minute walk from the property.

There are 2 indoor hot springs baths and an open-air bath at the property. The hostel was fantastic. We rented a tatami room, which was spotless, very comfortable and with a really nice view. The onsen was amazing, we absolutely loved it. Everything was clean, there were snacks, eggs to boil in the onsens in town and all cooking and serving tools to eat them afterwards. The bathrooms were incredibly clean. This was our favourite stay along the Kumano Kodo, despite being the cheapest.

Situated in Shirahama in the Wakayama region, with Shirarahama Beach and Saki-no-Yu Onsen Spa nearby, Bakery Hotel SHIRAHAMA ベーカリーホテル シラハマ features accommodation with free private parking, as well as access to a hot spring bath. Boasting a shared kitchen, this property also provides guests with a sun terrace. Kishu Museum of Art is 1.4 km away and Heisogen Park is 1.5 km from the apartment. I really enjoyed the delicious bakery and it's great that at the end of the day left over items are sold at a discount to hotel guests. I also really loved that the onset was open until very late at night.

Located in Tanabe, 12 km from Hosshinmon Oji Shrine, Minshuku Sumiya offers accommodation with a public bath. With an open-air bath, the 2-star ryokan has air-conditioned rooms with free WiFi, each with a shared bathroom. The ryokan features a hot spring bath and a housekeeping service. Very nice host and convenient location, which is just next to a bus stop. The room is big and clean. And it’s an interesting experience to stay in a tatami style room. In addition, there is wash machine and dryer in the hostel, so it is really helpful for the hiking travellers. The river view is very nice. Morning walk around the area is refreshing.

Ashita no Mori is located in the Kawayu Onsen district of Hongu, 20 km from Kumanokodo Nakahechi Museum of Art, 23 km from Kumanoshi Kiwakozan Museum and 33 km from Kamikura Shrine. There is an on-site restaurant, plus free private parking and free WiFi are available. The property is non-smoking and is set 12 km from Hosshinmon Oji Shrine.

The guest house is located in a geothermal area, with a number of hot springs nearby for guests to relax in. Digging your own hot spring next to the river was the best experience! The breakfast and dinner were fantastic! Best breakfast on the kumano kodo! They also organized a bento lunchbox for us (which was prepared by someone else and also less tasty than the food we got from the pension)

Offering tranquil outdoor hot-spring baths with nature views, a Nakai-san personal attendant, karaoke, massages and sumptuous Kaiseki dinners, Yunominesou is a 10-minute walk from Tsuboyu hot spring, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Spectacular service, very clean, excellent Japanese meals with full explanations for foreign guests, very quiet traditional rooms with modern public areas, traditional Onsen (our room had its own toilet but bathing is public in separate male and female baths (this might seem like a big deal to some but we embraced it as rare opportunity to experience a traditional Japanese Ryokan. Stayed here 2 nights to complete the Hongu loop of the Kumano Kodo in one day (traveling to and from the property is possible using reliable and inexpensive public transportation; it will take a day to get there from Tokyo and another day to return). The staff speak excellent English and I can’t say enough about their professionalism and care for their guest’s comfort.

Situated conveniently in the Shirahama Onsen district of Shirahama, Natural Hot Spring Inn Choseian - 長生庵 - is set 1.5 km from Shirarahama Beach, 2 km from Shirahama Art Museum and 2.1 km from Kishu Museum of Art. There is an on-site restaurant, plus free private parking and free WiFi are available. Guests also enjoy access to the hot spring bath and spa facilities, as well as the public bath and open-air bath. This was one of my best experiences at an onsen hotel in Japan during my 10+ years of travel. The staff were exceptional—responsive, welcoming, and able to communicate easily. Parking is right next to the hotel. Guests can enjoy the onsen facilities within the hotel and the nearby 長生湯, just a two-minute walk away. Both onsens are clean with 長生湯 offering a stunning view of the starry sky at night. There's also a restaurant nearby for supper which is convenient. Our room was spacious. We booked a 4-person room for just the two of us but the space is more than enough for 6 adults I would say! If I'm travelling with my family, I'm sure they would be super happy with the room. The food was delicious and satisfying, especially the house plum wine, which is a must-try! Overall speaking, excellent stay and great value for money!
