Everything! If only I can rate it more than 5 star I will. The kind and warm welcome of the family host, comfortable bed, clean, cozy and homey stay & the food prepared was delicious and healthy (vegetables were organically grown by the owners from their garden). The area is surrounded with natural landscape too from rivers to mountains and it’s even more beautiful during the winter to walk around and enjoy the view.

The staff are phenomenally kind and helpful with anything you might need. They helped me reserve restaurants, gave me recommendations for places to go and see in the area, and were flexible on breakfast times. There are staff who speak Japanese, English, and French at least, and perhaps more. They were very nice about helping me practice my Japanese as well. I would get back to the hotel at 8 pm and they would happily chat with me about my day :) The building was incredible as well. It's a converted training hall, I believe, and is directly adjacent to a historic Buddhist temple, at which you can attend morning services. The rooms felt super clean and nice, and the windows were super cool, with paper screens which slid over frosted glass, which could also slide to open the window. Overall probably the best hotel I've stayed at. The location is great as well. It's a bit of a rural town, with rice fields, mountains, rivers, and waterfalls all around. I ended up exploring the town, visiting the historic Ainokura village, biking/climbing up to Nawagaike pond and the peak of the mountain past it, and exploring the neighboring towns. They were all super fun experiences.

You have your own space in the dormitory with tatami mats and it’s very close to a tattoo-friendly onsen, bus station and to a lake. The owner and the staff was friendly! There are not many people in the guesthouse, so it’s a really nice place to calm down.

    Great location for those wishing to see the Gassho farmhouses off the beaten path. Welcoming staff and a little show for tourist on certain nights. Price included two wonderful meals in common area with other guests - two seating options for both breakfast and dinner. Enjoyed the outdoor onsen and parking was very convenient.

    Authentic Japanese thatched room house over 300 yr history with Japanese style open-hearth dinning room. Futon beds on tatami floor. Bathrooms are clean but shared and fortunately fitted with modern “Toto” sanitary automatic sensor seats toilets. The landlady and family stays upstairs and we have the whole lower ground to ourselves. Food served is home made and delicious This house is located in the less touristy town of Ainokura. There is parking for 1 car (beside the house )and its free. The landlady is especially polite and welcoming.
