Considering the distance, the best way is to go to Utsunomiya, have a night sleep there and then go to Nikko without any rush. So, we looked for a nice "base". This hotel was excellent for this purpose. Located in the center of Utsunomiya it offered great access, very convenient parking arrangement, excellent breakfast in the morning.
