For a weekend or long weekend Budapest is a beautiful, safe and relaxed city to visit. Its a place for locals by locals and you can see the community unity and national pride in how the local interact and care for what is their home. Everyone speaks English, most signs and menus etc are in English. They are very welcoming but are not tolerant of boisterous nonsense. They don't and you won't be doing that. Airport - Right outside the exit door is the regular (every few minutes) E100 bus - tap on with your debit/credit card or buy a ticket from the ample number of English speaking staff or ticket machines. Next (and only) stop - the city centre. How easy is that? Whilst Budapest has activities its lends itself to relaxing. Walking around the main features, bridges, buildings and resturant/shopping areas. Forget about racing from one expensive thing to the next must be done hot spot - Budapest isn't that kind of town. It's an easily walkable city, relax, stroll about, enjoy. Rent a cheap eletric scooter for use on the extensive cycle paths if walking a few miles isn't your thing. Public transport is also cheap, clean, safe, sometimes crowded but extensive. Even very late at night it's safe, in the 2020's very few big western cities can claim that honor. Belgrade is beautiful and has so much history and the locals are very pleasant and welcoming. I enjoyed my walks along the knez Mihailova street, so beautiful and majestic. Belgrade is indeed a beautiful city. There's a Dino park at the kalemegdan fortress,it's perfect for kids. There's a small entrance fee. It's a nice city, but unfortunately almost every adult smokes and most cafes don't enforce a non-smoking policy. I unfortunately stayed in the centre of Stari Grad where all the loud bars and clubs are and there is no real legal policy on noise pollution. I honestly don't know how people live here full time. Due to this, I had to stay in a lot of other places on the weekends (+ I also visited Belgrade on occassion). This meant I could (hopefully) get some quality sleep. But having said this, I didn't get to fully explore the city and all it has to offer but the main area of Stari Grad is very nice culturally and a nice place to walk. I also think the river should be more accessible with nice paths alongside it. It's either a main stretch of busy road or once you hit a certain place it's blocked off and you have to pay the beach venue to access it which is a shame.Guest review byTomUnited Kingdom - 10.0
I was surprised at how much there was to see and do in this...
I was surprised at how much there was to see and do in this charming medieval town. We stayed for 4 nights which felt just right for visiting the castle, the Virgin Mary pilgrimage church, taking an afternoon boat ride on the Crystal ship, visiting the glass museum, and walking along the cobblestone streets to visit shops, art galleries, cafes, and bars. If we had more time I would have probably used the spot as a jumping off point for other local towns. We did a lot of walking to see the gorgeous views of the 3 rivers. Galati was special, two days was a bit short. - We took an early morning ferry over the Danube and back as foot passengers before breakfast. Fabulous sunrise, nice adventure. - Evening walk along the Faleza with beautiful impressing sculptures from the seventies. - Recommend restaurant Blue Acqua, good athmosphere and delicious fish dishes. Marshall Cafeteria in Traian Square. Fantastic Cakes. One day I had “ Champagne “ . Next day “ Savarina”. But Champagne probably was of the best cake I had in my life. Rest of them. Red Velvet, Amandina, Carpați, Diplomat, Ecler, Backavas with chocolate, Baclavas for Fasting, drink “ Braga”. And many, many more. For exemple : Last time I drank Braga it was when I was a child. 8 to 10 years old. Now I am 57. So, was worth it this trip to Braila. Budapest has many easy to access sites, albeit the museums charge so you might want to get a Budapest Go City Card (online and at stalls). Always felt safe, lots of English and for some reason spanish spoken. Uber and Bolt work very well and the airport was easy to get through.
