Fantastic vibrant city.
Fantastic vibrant city. Beautifully restored old buildings and beautiful mature trees and birds everywhere. Great shopping for every taste. Lots of public transport options or really enjoyable walking around the streets. We did a 2 hour sunset dinner cruise around the harbour with Sydney Harbour Tall Ships - highly recommended for their commentary and a chance to ride on a beautiful old tall ship.Guest review byLorraineNew Zealand - 10.0

The redeveloped port area and clever use of the railway facilities make this a delightful area to stay, and there are extensive attractions in the region. We ate at restaurants along the waterfront and shopped in the local area. All good.Guest review byJohnAustralia - 10.0
Low-key vibe to the area and town.
Low-key vibe to the area and town. Not at all built up, considering it is a popular destination. Loads of great restaurants, accommodation and shops to choose from. Recommend using Byron Bay kayaks for watching the whales and dolphins, a highlight of my trip! Went to Bang Bang restaurant (Asian sharing - good food but noisy) and the Treehouse (great food). We had a car and managed to visit neighbouring towns and beaches, which were also low-key with original buildings, so quaint.Guest review byDebbieNew Zealand - 6.0

We arrived at night in drkness so it was difficult to get a fix on location and most things were closed as it was winter. However, it was a lovely harbour and area during the daylight to walk and grab a coffee.Guest review byFionaUnited Arab Emirates - 10.0

Best: clean, refresh, modern apartment, really well appointed and in a great location with restaurants and coffee shops an easy walk. Not so: no direct heating in the bathrooms so uncomfortably cold in the cooler weather.Guest review byDianaAustralia - 10.0

It was just an overnight stop returning from Canberra.
It was just an overnight stop returning from Canberra. The city is relatively large and sprawling and difficult to navigate with compulsory turns etc. Signs pointing to "i" information were confusing, but after I gave up looking for it, I found that it was in the library and quite helpful for maps and brochures of things to do. For someone not familiar with the area, Wodonga (over the river) is much easier to navigate. In the evening I had dinner at the pizza restaurant (in the main street of Albury), but they also have pastas, mains, salads etc, and I was happy with my choice. The following morning I went to Gateway Island, on the Victorian side of the river, planning to do the 4-5 km Gateway Island trail, but actually ended up doing the Crossing Place Trail just over the road which was also 4-5 km with sculptures and information along the river bank.Guest review byHelenAustralia - 10.0

It's our closest regional city, from our farm a couple of hours distant. The city has its own country feel, events, music yes but also any kind of music you want to enjoy, friendly retailers and staff, helpful accommodation and hospitality staff. I've known its centre all my life; so has my immediate family. Best of all is "it's NOT Newcastle," a sprawling bigger city. Tamworth is easier and faster to navigate. It's growing and adding more types of events year by year, so it is a great place to shop, enjoy entertainment and hospitality, obtain essentials and extras for cars and farm, see fine art, just a familiar, progressive place to visit with its heritage values.Guest review byEddyAustralia
