I am from Melbourne and this was my return trip home for 30 years. While i was not in Melbourne for the city, but visited all my old haunts in the suburbs. Dined out at La Famiglia Restauraunt. Melbourne Museum- Southbank Promonade- Skydeck were great. Must admit the city is way more chaotic than the last time i was here, but beautiful none the less. Geelong has a lot to offer with some great restaurants, cafes and pubs for meals. Well located if you want to travel to other places like Lorne, Barwon Heads, Queenscliff, but want more reasonable hotel rates, Geelong is more reasonably priced. Good shopping and great waterfront. Walks, exploring, R and R, shopping and eating out. We loved walking out on the rock jetty and talking with local fishermen. Enjoyed Marriners Lookout, great sea views and vegetation of the area. Really enjoyed the Paddle Steamer excursion and gaining an understanding of the 'lock system' along the river. People were friendly and helpful. Best dining experience was 'Enjoywine Char Grill & Bar'. Amazing food and great service. Also, really enjoyed the visit to Wentworth Gaol and the Wentworth Pioneer Museum - really interesting! Good range of shopping & eateries available, only criticism would be that we couldn’t find a coffee shop open after 4pm on Sunday, apart from the RSL. Botanical gardens worth visiting. Visited Buchan Caves , Koalas at Raymond Island, Tasted Beesting cheesecakes at TamboValleyHoney, Lancaster Horse Rides in the Colhuqan State Forest, Metung Hot Springs, Camp Dafting.
