We were treated with great warmth and care in the Locanda Marco. Personal yet discrete service, comfy cool room with great pillows, wonderful food and wine recommendations and a very special breakfast room and poached egg! Loved the outdoor seating for the evening meal and feel so grateful for having been made to feel so special and welcomed. We’ll be back and we highly recommend!

Walk to station , supermarket, service station has food if it's Sunday and supermarkets closed , all literally across the road. Modern rooms, highly recommend 👌 Gym is great !!     What a lovely place, in a beautiful green, quiet location, just outside of Gudo, overlooking the vineyards and the mountains. Marco is a great host, kind to everyone, open for chats (which we love) and very attentive. We stayed 5 nights and the breakfast was perfect, every single day. He makes good coffee, there were different cheeses to choose from every day, and fresh fruit, among others. We were also very happy with the beds, after almost a week in Interlaken with super soft beds, we were happy with these nice, sturdy matrasses. Marco also organizes dinners. We were able to enjoy one of them and we were very satisfied. We will come again, when we're back in Ticino! With the Ticino ticket that you get upon arrival, you can use all means of public transport in Ticino free of charge. That's a huge bonus. Bellinzona is only 20 minutes by bus and from there you can take great walks, either high up in the mountains (using a cable car to get there), or lower, there's ample choice.

    We were warmly welcomed into this charming hotel (in the same ownership for four generations) by helpful staff who ensured that all our needs were looked after. Our motorcycle was housed in the adjoining garage, our bedroom was large, bright and airy, spotlessly clean and comfortable. With bar and restaurant facilities also available, we highly recommend Albergo Defanti.

    Perfectly situated with views to the castle and a lovely bar/ restaurant downstairs which is great for both a coffee / snack or dinner etc. The room was perfect for two with a magnificent shower and VERY COMFY bed. The hosts were extremely courteous and happy to do that little 'extra' that helped make our stay even more enjoyable. Highly recommend this hotel.

    Aiolo is probably beautiful in the snow and it has superb trails up behind in the countryside with Swiss cows wearing bells and mountain goats. Lovely old houses and probably once a delightful place. Sadly now dominated by a huge concrete factory and all the noise and dust that entails. Better to stay at the San Gottardo hotel probably, which is actually ON the pass itself, or above the pass.

    It is very convenient to go to all areas of Ticino, as there are buses every 15-30 minutes to Bellinzona, Giubiasco and Locarno. For example, it takes only 12 minutes by train from Giubiasco to Lugano.

    While Bellinzona is in Switzerland and a lovely train ride from Lucerne, you feel like you're in Italy. There are several medieval castles within walking distance to explore as well as great shopping and restaurants.

    nice ski resort, bit hidden from the rest of switzerland but great for a weekend, especially when there has been a dump. Airolo itself has seen better times. There are a couple of restaurants in the street in front of the station, not much to see otherwise

    Bellinzona is a perfectly located central hub in the canton of Ticino. It is easily accessible from various directions and by multiple means of transport. For air travel, one convenient option is flying to Milan-Malpensa Airport, from which direct train connections take approximately two hours to reach Bellinzona. Another option is arriving via Mulhouse-Basel Airport and then traveling by train through the Gotthard Tunnel. The area around Bellinzona is also well-connected by highways from Italy and northern Switzerland, as well as by an efficient railway network. The city itself offers numerous sightseeing opportunities, with its three castles being a must-visit. Additionally, there are several lesser-known yet fascinating sites, such as the archaeologically significant Curzútt. Beyond Bellinzona, there are plenty of attractive destinations for day trips, including Lugano and the botanical garden on the Brissago Islands in Lake Maggiore. The city has a very welcoming and pleasant atmosphere. It embodies Swiss cleanliness while embracing an Italian way of life, offering excellent food and wine. The locals are warm and hospitable, making Bellinzona an inviting destination for travelers.

    Who in their right mind would want to go to Airolo?

    Who in their right mind would want to go to Airolo? Usually travellers that use the Gotthard-tunnel in northerly direction. We decided to dodge the traffic jam and stay the night as near to the tunnel entrance as possible. For those that want to stay the night and travel on through the tunnel the next morning: make sure you’re on time! (Certainly before 9AM and preferably earlier) During peak-season the northbound entrance to the motorway at Airolo is blocked during the day, to prevent cut-through traffic. If that happens you have to backtrack on the old road to entrance nr 42 at Quinto and join the motorway queue north all over again. When you arrive in the afternoon and there are long queues for the Gotthard, don’t join them until you reach exit 41 at Airolo, but leave the motorway at the earlier exit at Quinto and make your way to Airolo using the local road.
