FAQs about hotels in Bavaria
Romantic Region of Castles and Christmas Markets
Home to some of the world’s oldest and finest Christmas markets, Bavaria is the German region touching Lake Constance and the Austrian and Czech borders. Although evoking images of beer, lederhosen and fairytale castles, it’s much, much more than that.
Famous for Oktoberfest, its capital Munich has impressive architecture lining squares and parks, and several luxury Bavaria hotels on Booking.com. To the north, Nuremberg is a city of 2 halves: a picture-postcard old town and grandiose Nazi rally grounds housing a sensitive museum.
With a stately palace and gardens, Erlangen is on the Regnitz River which continues to beautiful Bamberg where one of the half-timbered buildings hovers above the flowing river. Bayreuth is well-known for opera performances of Wagner, a former resident, while Regensburg on the Danube River has a beautiful, medieval centre.
Unsurprisingly, most romantic Bavaria hotels are on the Romantic Road between Würzburg, with its hilltop castle, and Füssen in the foothills of the Alps. Neighbouring Hohenschwangau has 2 royal castles, one of which – Neuschwanstein – inspired the Disney castle. Oberammergau has frescoed façades and hosts a 10-yearly Passion Play, and nearby Garmisch-Partenkirchen is a top German ski resort, with Tyrolean-style houses overlooked by Zugspitze, Germany’s highest mountain.
Back on the Romantic Road, Augsburg has colourful buildings, and Rothenburg ob der Tauber is like stepping back in time.

- From US$229.28 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 7.7Good - What previous guests thought, 2,984 reviewsWe arrived earlier than our check-in time and even though we couldn’t get in to our rooms straight away, we were able to use the pool and sauna hours before. The reception staff were so friendly and helpful and the coffee machine in the reception area ,where everyone could help themselves freely, was amazing. Our rooms were fantastic- One of the rooms was very modern and the other one was typical German style. Everything was really clean and comfortable and we had beautiful views of the sea. Breakfast was plentiful and there was something for everyone.Guest review byDavidUnited Kingdom
- From US$449.16 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.0Superb - What previous guests thought, 715 reviewsBig hotel that never seems to be big, thanks to a brilliant layout. Excellent staff, the service level is really high. Good bed, shower, room. Great Spa and Pool area. The separate family spa is brilliant, it keeps the adult only spa quiet but is not lacking in its offering. Probably the best breakfast buffet and à la carte we have had. Dinner at the hotel was really good as well.Guest review byJulieLuxembourg

The area near the train station was a bit seedy, so we took a taxi to our hotel. We enjoyed Marienplatz and the Glockenspiel. Dinner at the Hofbrau House was fun. There is an amber shop in Marienplatz, where my wife purchased some jewelry. We only had one night in Munich, but we enjoyed our short time there.Guest review byBillUnited States - 8.0
Center of Nuremberg was almost leveled in WW2.
Center of Nuremberg was almost leveled in WW2. The postwar reconstruction of buildings mostly created replacement buildings in a bland style, though the street layout remained. The churches were very well restored. I liked nearby Bamberg better on a day trip from Nuremberg. (45 minutes by Regional Bahn train.)Guest review byRichardUnited States - 8.0

Lovely city to have a stop during my drive to a business meeting. City has nice architecture and the Donau river gives the extra touch. Enough possibilities to have a nice lunch and diner. Can recommend Burgerheart when you want some nice American experience. Loved the peer-melon limonade. Went now two year in a row to Regensburg and can't wait for the next one.Guest review byBoecky89Belgium - 10.0

A very interesting historical city, much of which has been lovingly restored after devastating air raid damage in WW2. The Residence I(and its gardens) are well worth visiting, being a smaller scale version of the palaces at Versailles and Charlottenburg. Don't miss the Hofkirche while there. The Marienberg Fortress on the hill overlooking the town offers fantastic views, but is currently being extensively refurbished. It is still worth visiting though. And if you like visiting churches, you will not be disappointed here. Fantastic cuisine and wine available here. we can heartily recommend Aifach Resins and zum Stachel, the former for more contemporary cuisine and the latter for more traditional fare in traditional and historic surroundings.Guest review byDavidUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Augsburg is a very charming city with lots of points of interest and restaurants and caffee's. Don't miss the Rathausplatz, Fuggerei, Maximilianstrasse, Koenigplatz and old city walls. For good Bavarian/Schwaebische Food I recommend Restaurant unter dem Bogen on Annastrasse. People watching and relaxing Caffee Eber am Rathausplatx. Take one of the city tours, organized by the city and raasonably priced. Augsburgs Strassenbahn System makes it easy to get around, buy a "Streifenkarte". Walk around in the Altstadt and around the "Kahnfahrt" and the old city walls- it is just beautiful.Guest review byUrsulaGermany - 10.0

Stay near center. Ride E-bike around lake (ca 35 km). Swim in lake! Visit castle but only hike up there if your joints/heart can handle it. It’s very steep and ca 40 min walk up hill. Beautiful town :)Guest review byEmilyNetherlands - 10.0

The highlight was of course the Zugspite and the journey there by train, rack-rail, and cable car. Amazing views from the Zugspitze plateau topped only by the panorama from the peak itself. Given more time we'd have explored the many hiking trails, including the Partnach Gorge, but did manage the short walk to the beautiful pilgrimage church of Wallfahrtskirche St. Anton, not far from our hotel in downtown Partenkirchen.Guest review byLindaUnited Kingdom - 8.0

I visited Rothenburg 14 years ago & couldn't wait to get back. This time I brought my 2 adult children who just loved it & will be bringing their children one day. Very sorry to hear Anneliese Frieze had passed away. Lovely lady. We walked the whole town, did lots of fantastic shopping. My son & daughter climbed the town hall tower & did the Night watchman walk, which they thoroughly enjoyed. We had our dinners at our hotel, Gasthaus Alter Keller & loved the food & great staff. Our hotel was only 200m to the main square - fantastic position.Guest review byDiAustralia
