Nice place in a volcanic area with plenty of places to visit and nice walks plus the few mineral water springs makes any holiday worth it. Plenty of supermarkets/shops and cheap gas also adds to the pleasant experience.Guest review byIPNetherlands - 2.0

Paying almost €1000 for 3 nights one would expect a clean room and clean towels daily. NO. Come on, these are the basics. I politely explained it to the front desk, their reply; personel too busy. It is for the environment. I booked a hotel, no ecologically self-indulgent eco cult. Also when we politely said that we would like to have dinner, the staff responded angry that we didn’t make reservations. This hotel is clearly understaffed. No good hotel manners or etiquette. When we politely told our griefs, it was basically our own fault, that’s the feeling they gave us. No small refund, no apologies, nothing!! Do yourself a favor: don’t go there!Guest review byDennisNetherlands - 8.0

Kelberg is neatly central to places to visit in the Vulkaneifel and slightly beyond (15m from the lakes of Daun, 1h drive from places like Cochem and Trier). The area generally is woodlands which is great for hiking and mbt/cycling. Kelberg is a very tidy and quiet town with a good bakery/bistro and decent restaurants and two supermarkets. Not too touristy, which people like me enjoy best.Guest review byAnonymous - 4.0

We expected a lovely view from our 2nd floor rooms but we only looked put over other rooftops. There is a small lake nearby/behind the establishment but a muddy pathway was not the best way forward. We would not visit Schalkenmehren again.Guest review byPeterUnited Kingdom - 8.0

Having camped for 6 days at the Nurburgring we needed somewhere to stay that had a hot shower, somewhere to eat and a bar. The Birgelhof had all 3. The room was basic but given how tired we where that was fine. The shower was hot however the shower fitment was falling out of the wall (room 8) Only after buying our first beers (around 6:45pm) were we told that the bar was closing at 8pm. We would have liked the bar to stay open for at least another 2 hours. The menu was simple but we both ordered home made Cordon Blue Schnitzels which were fantastic. They arrived with a massive portion of fries and a salad. Breakfast was typical European with bread rolls, meats, cheeses, fruits, fruit juice and coffee. The waitress/cook also made us scrambled eggs.Guest review byMichaelUnited Kingdom - 10.0
We were looking for a quiet hotel and that is what we got.
We were looking for a quiet hotel and that is what we got. The people are exceptionally friendly, the food was very good and the hotel exceeded our expectations. The area around the hotel is beautiful with lots of walks and woodlands and there is plenty to do. There are a good number of restaurants and the restaurant in the hotel is also recommendable.Guest review byAnonymousUnited Kingdom - 8.0

Major attractions are the surroundings, mainly the so-called Dolomites and the Auberg. And more generally the many walks around, as the Eifelsteig track from Aachen to Trier, passing in Gerolstein. Few historical buildings in town : the Burg, the Museum, maybe some others. That museum seems highly interesting but it was unfortunately closed when we were there, in low season. Some restaurants, among which the "Costa Verde" where we had our nicest dinner in Germany.Guest review byAllalinBelgium - 6.0

Nice view at the rocks.
Nice view at the rocks. Not a very exciting city center but that is also not what we had expected. A typical small German town/village with the majority of big retail chains at the outskirts of the town. People were friendly, two restaurants we liked were Athen (Greek) and Balkan Grill (Croatian/German). Simple but well prepared grill/fish etc. A tip is the public swimming lake “Gemündener Maar”. Not far away. You need to register due to Covid for one of two time slots 11.00-15.00 and 16.00 to ?? More info to be found on their web site. 5 euro per ticket but we thought that to be worth it. Would not visit Gerolstein soon again, probably Daun is a bit better as location to stay. But all in all it is the company of your travels that defines the fun you have. Not the place, weather or much else!Guest review byStephanNetherlands
