FAQs about hotels in Galicia
Historic and Holy
A region of lush landscapes, countless coves and beautiful beaches, Galicia is the westernmost part of Spain. Long admired, it boasts incredible reminders of its first settlers – the Romans.
Lugo is the world’s only city entirely surrounded by Roman walls, and quite a sight they are. On a rocky promontory in A Coruña, the Tower of Hercules is a working Roman lighthouse. Considered the world’s oldest, it overlooks one of the region’s ‘rias altas’ – coastal inlets flanked by high cliffs.
Sheltered in another inlet is the port of Ferrol, and Viveiro around the coast has a lovely beach nestled below green hills. Another sandy beach protected by zig-zag cliffs is Ribadeo, on the Asturias border.
The most famous Galicia attraction is the capital Santiago de Compostela whose huge cathedral, firmly on the pilgrim route, is Christianity’s 3rd most important. Unsurprisingly, the city has the most 5-star Galicia hotels on Booking.com, though it’s smaller than Vigo which has a replica of the ship that reported America’s discovery.
The castle in nearby Baiona overlooks a beach, and Pontevedra slopes down to the sea. The undulating coastline continues to O Grove, known for beautiful beaches and hot springs. Thermal waters are also in Ourense, near the stunning Sil River Canyon in the hilly interior, home to most small hotels in Galicia.

- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.0Superb - What previous guests thought, 2,960 reviewsThis hotel is incredible - right next to the Santiago de Compostela, the location couldn't be more perfect. The room we had was so large, we thought there had been a mistake, but no - it's just an incredible property, and you do feel like Medieval Catholic Royalty when you stay there. The breakfast was delicious - although it was our first time experiencing tableside service for ordering omelettes etc ( we are used to just going up to an egg station to order!) so we were patiently guided back to our table and told to wait for the waiter to come around, which we both thought was funny! Breakfast had so many Galician specialties on it as well, we tried as much as possible, and it was all delicious. We loved walking through the hotel interior and the inner courtyards as well - it's incredibly beautiful. All of the staff were so courteous and friendly - and very patient with all of our questions. We had dinner at the Tapas restaurant our second night and would absolutely recommend it - the seafood was incredible. Even my vegan partner was chowing down on shrimp and scallops ( we joke that he is now 'Spanish Vegan' ) - and the price was more than fair.Guest review byMarielCanada
- From US$145.59 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.0Superb - What previous guests thought, 1,629 reviewsEvery star is deserved. The location is good, across a charming park. We had the view to the park and road, but we heard nothing. The room was big and stylish. The main feature was the jacuzzi in the room, separated by a glass, which could be covered for privacy. The coffee was on the house. The bed was huge and comfortable. They provided even house shoes and wardrobe. I had the best sleep on my camino.Guest review byCorina BiancaRomania

Its a beautiful city with lots to see and do.
Its a beautiful city with lots to see and do. It was where i was beginning my start of the camino from here to Finsterre onto Muxia I had enough time to stroll round, to the roof top tour of the cathedral, visit the pilgrims museum and also get great tapas and great food. Loads to choose from A very easy city to navigate and walk around, with beautiful architecture. Bonasi was a great cafe with delicious food and coffee, definitely do the roof top tour and get some tapas. The only thing to remember most places are closed on Sundays so be mindful of this and many places close for the afternoon and reopen for food between 7:30/8:30pm so depending on when you like to have lunch/dinner keep this in mindGuest review byLouiseIreland - 6.0

Bus transport in this town we struggled with, so we ended up hiring a car. Trains are very good. We definitely stayed too long, there is not a lot to do here. The beaches we did get to see were lovely, wished we stayed near a beach rather than town.Guest review byLesley HarveyUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Pretty city with lovely river walks and the old town was gorgeous. Beautiful churches and basilicas which were free to visit. The restaurants were excellent and a wide range of cuisines. It was a bit hectic driving around town and parking on the street was difficult. However, there were many inexpensive carparks available. The people were friendly and learning a little Spanish before visiting this region, will go a long way.Guest review byBelindaAustralia - 8.0

A different Spain, on the north west tip of the country. Weather can be trying, wind and rain are ever present possibilities. Despite the hills, easily walkable. Good bus service, pay the driver. Proximity to Santiago de Compostela by rail and bus. Direct flight by Vuelling from Gatwick.Guest review byRobertUnited Kingdom - 10.0
I was pleased with my time in Arzua. I was tired.
I was pleased with my time in Arzua. I was tired. It was a long hard walk with a 40 lb pack on my back, so reaching Arzua and having a clean comfortable bed with a private bathroom and the promise of a hearty breakfast the next morning was a bonus. Also I learned that I could have someone courier my back pack to my next destination was a very welcome piece of news.Guest review byPamelaCanada - 10.0

O Pedrouzo is a small town on the way to El Camino De Compostela. We only needed to stay one night and that was enough. I'm not sure if there were much to do in town. We tried two restaurants El Bule and Galaicos that serve traditional Galician food. Prices were fair and food was good.Guest review byJuan - 10.0

It was amazing to arrive in Portomarin and dip my feet in the river. It was the best foot spa experience I have ever had. Great spot to rest when walking the Camino from Sarria. There was a couple of people singing and playing a guitar under a bridge and that made the whole experience even more romantic.Guest review byMaryIreland - 10.0
