Unhurried life in unspoiled nature
A beautiful Balearic Island, Minorca (or Menorca) has wonderful beaches, sandy coves and a more laid-back atmosphere than its neighbors, Ibiza and Majorca. Featuring the world’s 2nd largest natural harbor, its capital, Mahon, is the center of the nightlife, with several clubs and bars. However, as soon as you head to one of the Menorca resorts, things start to slow down. Punta Prima along the coast has a lovely Blue Flag beach, while the longest beach at Son Bou on the south coast is lined by protected sand dunes. Much of Menorca’s unspoiled beauty is ecologically important, so it’s worth heading inland from the beaches to explore the mountains. The views from the highest peak, Monte Toro, are amazing. Also worth checking out are the "taula," prehistoric megaliths of mysterious origin. Another prehistoric monument is the Naveta tomb near Ciutadella, a city centered around its port, partly lined with walls. Fantastic Cala Blanca and Cala’n Bosch to the south have a nice range of luxury Minorca hotels available on Booking.com, as does curving Cala Galdana where the sea appears almost green. On the more rocky north side of the island, the main resorts are Fornells, a pretty fishing village, and Arenal d’en Castell, home to yet another wonderful horseshoe bay.

It has been 40 years since we visited. This time with extended family. 1st week at a property that accommodated 8. 2nd week at the Vista Playa 1. Only one very poor failing in both. Neither property provided good wine glasses for drinking good Spanish wine. Glass tumblers are a bad image. Exception - Vista Playa 1 did provide 2 good wine glasses after our request. This little town is a great base for exploring Menorca - it has a lovely location beside a pretty cove and one can head in different directions to explore the island from here! There is quite a wide choice of restaurants, of variable quality, the best imho are Casa Tia and El Pulpo. There are two good sized supermarkets. We visited Fornells pre season, therefore very quiet and a lot of bars, restaurants and shops hadnt opened. everything was about to open up. my opinion is it is the perfect place for 'boaties'. you need a car to travel to beaches as there isnt a beach at Fornells. Although parking can be difficult in the port itself, there is plenty of parking available a short walk behind the village. An upmarket quirky and pretty village. a varied selection of restaurants offering fish or the famous Lobster stew. plentyt of walks for enthusiasts. We absolutely loved the location, we stayed in an apartment with sea view, and was the best waking up and go to balcony to breath the sea air. We managed to have breakfast in balcony looking at the sea and boats as at that time in morning there was some shade to allow us to do that. Kitchen is very basic and not that well equipped but despite all that we loved every moment of our stay and will come back sometime in the future. We recommend hiring a car as we did, so you can travel around, we visited again Fornells, and went on a boat trip that was amazing, it takes about 25 minutes from airport to get to Sun Parc and there is a brilliant supermarket on the away "Mercadona" where you can buy all your supplies.Guest review byFatimaUnited Kingdom
