FAQs about hotels in Camargue
Wetlands, Birds and White Horses
The largest river delta in Europe, Camargue is a land of salt marshes, farmlands and pastures in the French region of Provence. This tranquil oasis is well-known for its white horses, rich bird life and ‘les gardiens’, the local cowboys.
The region spreads along the west bank of the Rhone River, south of Arles. Camargue’s biggest city is known for its abundance of Roman remains, and as a place where Vincent van Gogh lived between 1888 and 1889 and produced over 300 of his precious art pieces.
To the south-west, you can find the regions’ capital, Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer, a charming port town, the population of which grows 20 times during the summer months. It is also an important pilgrimage destination for those who want to see the relics of the Three Marys.
The vast area of Camargue is best explored on horseback or using bicycles; both options give you a great opportunity to fully admire the scenery. There is the famous Camargue black, long-horn cows and its vast array of birds with over 400 species, including the pink flamingos!
Offering perfect opportunities and a setting for outdoor activities, Camargue is truly a major tourist destination. Visit Booking.com for best offers of luxury and boutique hotels, holiday homes and cosy apartments.

Great restaurants and a lot of them catering for almost all tastes and diets including an excellent vegetarian/vegan one. Excellent food, especially fish and beef but not cheap! Parking sometimes difficult! Generally very friendly locals.Guest review byAshwynFrance - 8.0

La Grand Motte is pleasant and has numerous bars and cafes. The beach area is clean and looked after. It's not the most sophisticated seaside town but it's probably got something for most people.Guest review byLenUnited Kingdom - 6.0
The good: Flamingos! Miles of beaches.
The good: Flamingos! Miles of beaches. Great places to go walking. Amigoland, though expensive, is fun for kids of all ages - even those in their forties. You can rent motorboats and jetskis in town. For connections, its not far from Montpellier or Marseille. The bad: Restaurants are poor in LGdR. From French to Italian to Asian they all disappointed. Mosquitoes are tenacious all around this area due to miles and miles of open shallow water. Personal verdict: go somewhere else instead.Guest review byMark & KikiIreland - 10.0

We liked the very harmonious mix of ancient history and modern attractions. The map provided by the tourist office with 40 interesting points of interest marked for you to wander in your own time very useful. We had drinks in many places but ate in La Vigourie and IX Louis only. Both delicious and great value. Even though one of us has a few mobility problems walking around in short bursts worked fine; the town is small enough. Sunday market was excellent for end of season summer dresses, roast chickens and figs! Walking the ramparts (in flat shoes) is probably a must, educational animations along the way are well done with sub-titles. A week is a good stay length, take a short train ride to the sea-side ports, architectural surprises like La Grande Motte and out into the Camargue flats.Guest review bySandraFrance - 8.0
So splendid place to see and explore! Worth of it and more.

A modern resort and although the buildings are mainly apartments we liked the architecture. Very clean The beach is very long and sandy although too early in the year for us to go on it or swim. Many stylish restaurants bars and cafes within walking distance, a lot around and near the marina. We had lunch in le Tandem, a small restaurant near the front specialising in freshly caught seafood. Moderately expensive (about £50 per head for 3 courses) but the quality of the cooking was outstanding. Lots of other shops. The resort was surprisingly busy for March. To get to or from Montpellier Centre is pretty easy by public transport. There are local buses which stop outside La Poste (15mins walk from the front) which connect with tram stations for the onward tram. The cost of €2.60 per person ( €1 bus and €1.60 tram ) is amazing value. A taxi from the airport to the Grande Motte is pretty expensive at around €40. There may be a cheaper alternative but we did not have enough time to check this out.Guest review byChristopherUnited Kingdom - 6.0

The property was a little tired, Im glad I took my own bedding and towels. I am used to staying in 5 star hotels and whilst I knew this was far from 5 stars, I was disappointed to find plastic sheets on the beds. It so reminded me of an out dated Butlins holiday camp roomGuest review byMarionUnited Kingdom - 10.0

We went early to avoid the parking spaces getting full . Nice to do the touristy train ride . It gave us very interesting historical facts . Nice eateries around the beautiful square . And tourist prices , but that is to be expected . Walking along the marches and canals was nice too . Definitely worth a visit 👍Guest review byLilyNew Zealand - 10.0

A lot of souvenir shops and restaurants for every taste, much fish options. Nice beach but I had bad weather. Horse riding places not far. A lot of other activities too. Unfortunately many streets are blocked and you cannot enter, not good for those who don't know the place. Parking situation is a catastrophe, even in low season, even the hotel only had 3 garages (pay) and little parking outside. Nobody wants to carry luggage 4 blocks.Guest review byTanjaGermany - 10.0

I prefer La Grande Motte over Grau du Roi or Palavas-les-Flots or Carnon because it has more woody areas and possible to walk around pine trees and by the sea. Prices are also better at restaurants: a menu can be around 18 euros when other towns start around 22 euros and up. Lots of outdoor activities. Parking a hard to find though.Guest review byKatia
