- From $151.79 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.0Wonderful - What previous guests thought, 152 reviewsAdorable hotel nestled in a lovely spot framed by pastures, forest and a charming pond. Our room was a comfy accommodation , very pleasant , and had a small terrace with a view over the natural cenario. Bathroom with a good shower. Dinner at the Bistrot ( one of the 2 restaurants on site) was excellent and the menu very tempting. Unfortunately the one-starred Michelin on-site wouldn’t open till Thursday. Gastronomic restaurants usually are closed from Monday till Thursday.Guest review byAntonellaSwitzerland

Besançon pleasantly surprised us.
Besançon pleasantly surprised us. We usually just passed through on our way to Dijon or Lyon, but stopping here was definitely worth it! The historic center has a wonderful atmosphere, highlighted by the Église Sainte-Madeleine de Besançon. Make sure to allow enough time for the local Museum of Archaeology and Fine Arts. The collection is extensive but well worth the time. The military fortifications around the city, including the Citadel (a UNESCO World Heritage site), were also an interesting highlight. The only downside is that the city is not a major tourist destination, so finding souvenirs can be a bit difficult, and even at the Citadel the selection is rather limited.Guest review byPetrCzech Republic - 10.0
It is a charming town on a river.
It is a charming town on a river. The old town is nice with the catherdral and the main square offering gastronomic experience with its many restaurants and cafés. The new city centre offers shopping facilities as well as restaurants and cafés. The citadelle is well worth climbing. There are wonderful forests around Belfort and fortresses to climb. There is a big lake with a park around and also a lake a bit further away, good for swimming as well. Belfort downtown is easy to walk around and visit. The surroundings offer countless and colorful possiblities of relaxing (hiking, biking, swimming, etc.). Do not miss out on it, if you are driving that way.Guest review byEstellaMHungary - 10.0

Dole is a really atmospheric, beautiful little town. Perfect to spend a few hours exploring. Seems to be a bit of a gastronomic centre, but unfortunately none of the restaurants was open when I was there (Sunday morning).Guest review byJamesSwitzerland - 8.0

We stayed for 5 nights in the charming old town area and would recommend the La Poste Brasserie for an evening meal. A drive round lake Saint-Point is a must, it is absolutely beautiful with lovely scenery and you can stop and sit by the lake or hire a pedallo at Saint-Point. Pontarlier is near the border with Switzerland and we drove there a couple of times, both trips taking about an hour. We went to Montreux on Lake Geneva, which was very upmarket and fabulous and also to Neuchâtel on Lac de Neuchâtel, which was also very nice, though not in the same way.Guest review bySandiUnited Kingdom - 8.0

We are two older Australians who had been on the road over four weeks. We stayed in Vesoul three nights. We had one of the best meals ever at Le Caveau du Grand Puits. We enjoyed walking in the older area, walked up to a very high point called La Motte and relaxed in the English Gardens. We both needed haircuts and walked in to a hairdresser, Figaro des Ursulines and came out feeling very refreshed. We made a day trip to Besançon, and also close by were Belfort, Gy and Gray. We stopped at these on the way. For us, Vesoul was a friendly place, a place to relax and use our limited French effectively. For more energetic people, there are a large number of cycling tracks to enjoy and there is delightful scenery everywhere. No it is not a famed tourist spot but yes there is a lot to enjoy in Vesoul.Guest review byJuneAustralia - 10.0
The city and surrounding area was simply charming.
The city and surrounding area was simply charming. We were there on market day and that was a real treat. Local shops were friendly and interesting. We visited Louis Pasteur home and had an interesting tour. Our B&B hostess recommended a local restaurant that was wonderful and we had read about a nearby castle/hotel with dining which was also way beyond expectation. Everything was a great value. The town is very walkable.Guest review bymary janeUnited States - 4.0

Although locate in a superb area for walking a town can easily judge a town by the age profile and what facilities are open and he quality of them. The town boast 24000 in 1973 and now has an aging population of 9000. The bars are well we could not find one that had any 'local' attmosphere and the restaurants looked run down and catering for some minorities. The only supermarket is a SPAR with dodgy hygiene standards in the centre. The cathedral is rpobably the real tail tail - what happened there. I uess the give away is the number of high rise blocks of flats that are only 20% occupied by the said elderly and the number of lights on in the evening. For a town that is trying to attract tourism according the 'Office de Tourism' it needs to decide who as there is nothing in town to do that!! The trot round town 1 hour tops then roll on.Guest review byAndrewUnited Kingdom - 6.0

I didn't have the time to visit most of the inner city, but from what I can tell it's rather average, somewhat well-kept but far from ambitious in its design. Probably best for one to focus on Dijon, although Besançon could still be explored on your way to the mountainsGuest review byMartin389Ireland - 10.0

The citadelle is worth the trip alone: walking through the many passageways, all the way to the very top for a great viewpoint. Don't miss a visit to the lion! We had a great dinner at Le Pot au Feu. The old town is quaint and great to walk around.Guest review byMarieFrance - 8.0
