Good English was spoken which we appreciated! The hotel was spotless inside and out. Our room was one of the smaller ones as the hotel was full and we booked late. It was fine though and the bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was modern and nicely done with an excellent shower. I enjoyed a relaxing swim in the pool - towels provided. We both enjoyed a delicious evening meal sitting outside looking at the sweeping view. The gardens are very well cared for and there is plenty of parking. The hotel is conveniently located a few minutes off the motorway but you don’t hear the traffic. It is a charming village, and its narrow streets are well worth visiting. Unfortunately, when I left there was a market, which would have been a pleasant experience. The old town was lovely and the church was natural, insomuch the inside was simple, not masses of gold around or huge effigies. There is a lovely river walk. The one downside was the lack choice for cafe's or restaurants and the lack of flexibility with their staff. Tables available, yes. Can we sit there, no. Whilst it doesn't have outstanding features or architecture, it's a very pleasant town, clean compact town with large pedestrian only streets with a friendly feel. A rather sad town with hardly any shops or cafes. The river is sluggish and dirty brown. No public transport or taxis to take us from train station 2km to the residence. A good cheap restaurant is CHEZ ANROCA run by a friendly couple from the French island of Reunion. They served delicious creole food, including excellent fish. It can be a little hard to get your bearings in Limoges as...
It can be a little hard to get your bearings in Limoges as the city is not flat and everything can feel a little scattered about (the city hall is miles away from the cathedral and the porcelain museum is yet again miles away from both). However, don't let that put you off visiting both the fine arts museum next to the cathedral as well as the porcelain museum (Musee Adrien Dubouche). The latter was extended and refurbished just a couple of years ago and the result is amazing with great technical insight into making pottery in general , the history of the local industry and a vast collection spanning almost every conceivable example.
