FAQs about hotels in Provence
The Picturesque Land of Lavender and Pastis
With lavender meadows and limestone soils covered with garrigue, the beautiful Provence smells of herbs, flowers and warm mistral winds. This vast French region spreads along the coast of the Mediterranean Sea from the wetlands of Camarque to the peaks of the Maritime Alps.
Famous for its cuisine, picturesque villages and the weather, Provence is one of France’s most popular holiday destinations. People come here to relax under the stunning blue skies and enjoy a slower life pace over a glass of pastis or local wine.
But don’t be mistaken, Provence is as much about the bustling cities as it is about its quiet countryside. Make sure you pay a visit the 2nd largest French city, Marseille, the forever glamorous Cannes or the popular resort of Nice. All of them offer plenty of sightseeing attractions, cultural events and fine dining venues.
For a breath of art and history, stop in Arles, a town full of Roman remains and Van Gogh’s famous artistic inspiration, or Avignon, best known for the stunning Gothic Palace of the Popes - the seat for Western Christianity during the 14th century.
From blue sea to rocky mountains, Provence has something for everyone’s taste. So does Booking.com: over 2000 properties in the region, from hotels with pools to cosy bed & breakfasts for your perfect Provence holiday.

The city has two polar opposites, the touristy all polished places and the very narrow dirty little streets. I only got to see this because we arrived in the city with a car very late at nigh (early in the morning) 3:30am, and we missed a turn to get to our hotel so the navigation took us into different one way alleys and it was surprisingly lively and busy (not in a good way) at that time of the night. Otherwise on the typical tourist attractions everything seems normal, you see diversity of people, a lot of options for food and good atmosphere. We even witnessed a protest going on and still felt safe.Guest review byAngelaNorth Macedonia - 10.0

Loved the City of Avignon and on our boat to the Popes Palace there was a supplementary exhibition of Jean-Michel Orthoniel exhibition which is amazing. On until January so would highly recommend. Lots of tiny theatres in the Bohemian area around St Claire’s. Food was excellent and good value for money. A gem of a place in Provence.Guest review bySusanUnited Kingdom - 10.0

We spent two nights in Aix-en-Provence and completely fell in love with the city. The Saturday market was amazing, full of colors and local flavors. Aix feels like a charming small town, but at the same time, it’s vibrant and full of things to do. We really wished we had more time there!Guest review byYICanada - 10.0

Arles is a big city with the Roman architecture contained in the very centre. It has good restaurants (listed on TripAdvisor). We enjoyed the Art exhibitions and strolling around looking at the architecture. There is some nice shopping to be had and most boutique owners spoke English. We loved the Pizzeria near the Arena (right down the bottom of the hill) and Restaurant La Pergula was reasonably priced with good food. We liked the street cafe (with its large mosaic of Van Gogh inside), opposite the Tourist Information Office (where the people were very helpful). We did a Safari to the Camargue which was well worthwhile. It's difficult to park in the centre of Arles so take your walking shoes!Guest review byJacquelineFrance - 4.0

We Didn’t like Toulon. Large, busy place. The main town wasn’t nice and not somewhere I would want to walk around. Beaches were very average - dusty shingle rather than sand. I wouldn’t return or recommend. We included the visit in a stopover.Guest review bySarahUnited Kingdom - 8.0

there are no 5star hotel groups there.. no Mario's or sheratons or Hiltons ? wonder why ?? the hotels are overpriced for the value we get. But the city is lovely and a very nice place to visit. Ie. the Breakfast place where we stay - the older generation with old mentality are Races and Rude, but the new younger generation are very nice and polite. I thin the older ones have their pains in the Ass..s to worryGuest review byRajuHong Kong - 10.0

Hyeres is beautiful like with a touch of Saint Tropez but way more peaceful. The people are nice and kind-very helpful. There are so many beach to chooce from. The transfortation is efficient enough. My favorite spot is the Port Saint Pierre- where you can dine by the port. I stayed in Ibis Budget hotel which is very close to the city center. Also the weather is nice.Guest review byMarvinPhilippines - 8.0

Enjoyed swimming, walking along the sea front and the ports and having coffee overlooking the sea front. Didn’t really see the uphill historic part, which I regret. The Tourist office at Saint Raphael was helpful as I needed a bus timetable. I’d say you need to be reasonably fit ( or have a car) to stay in the area I was in as in fact buses were few and far between so I did a lot of walking. I was on an Interrail pass so also enjoyed a little side trip out to Nice, which has good and frequent rail links with Saint Raphael.Guest review bySusanUnited Kingdom - 10.0

We like to fly into Nice and head to Saint Raphael as it’s a large coastal town with a harbour but smaller than Nice and beautiful promenade and many restaurants . I can swim in the sea everyday and grab the sun . It’s a lovely town . Very easy to grab a bus for day trips to other places or a train. We love heading to St Tropez for a day trip . A lovely bus trip . Cheap and great views of the coastline . Also Agay is beautiful resort . You could do Cannes . I’m not sure as regards nightlife as we are are here to relax . There is a harbour and yachts aplenty . So there are options to indulge in sea/ water activities . There is a Monoprix supermarket on same street as large church and few minutes into front of train station . Various Pharmacies . (Important to note that as of this year you cannot purchase strong painkillers from a pharmacy in France . It’s by presciption only . So if you need or require some ensure you take them with you .) .great boulangeries and cheesemongers . There’s also a fruit , veg , Fish market worth a visit . Saint Raphael is all walkable and I spotted many visitors who were wheelchair users . So access appears to be good here . We usually return to Nice for 2or 3 days for more of a city vibe .Guest review byarthurUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Cassis is our dream vacation - an adorable beach town that has none of the snootiness of some others in the south of France. It's relaxing without being boring. Our favorite resort vacation and this time made even better because we discover Enjoy Sushi, one of the most incredible sushi restaurants we've ever encountered. Walking around the town is fun. Being on the beach is delightful. The experience is always terrific.Guest review bySybilUnited States
