It was a delight to stay at The Angel! From the moment we arrived we were looked after so well by all the fabulous staff at all times of day and night. I can’t thank the kind man who helped us out in the courtyard at three o’clock in the morning and brought delicious tea and a cappuccino covered in salted caramel chocolate! Every part of the hotel is a magical blend of glorious architecture that has been there for hundreds of years and modern luxury. My room was the best! I wish I could have brought it home. With the exceptional en-suite. My bed was so comfortable and the bed linen was perfect! Every need was catered for to ensure the most delightful stay. The Angel Hotel is in the heart of Abergavenny, allowing such easy access to anywhere in the town. It was the best holiday in a place that I love. Staying in the Hotel made absolutely perfect.

Drovers Rest is lovely! we stayed in The Cart House which was really spacious, well appointed and so warm! Unfortunately the weather meant we couldn't partake in a farm walk but the fact that it was even an option was wonderful! We had everything we needed, the beds were comfortable and the water was hot! We cooked for the two nights we were there and had everything we needed. There is WiFi, games, books and various streaming services on hand if needed. The blackout blinds are a great touch and it is honestly so quiet! Marta was in contact and gave us all the information we needed.

Brecon is a great little centre for walking with a nice atmosphere and plenty of shops, pubs and restaurants. We live an hours drive away but it is really nice to book for a weekend away and to explore the area, the weather isn’t always kind so staying in Brecon provides for alternatives if necessary.

Merthyr itself is a bit of a depressing town. Lots of empty shops. A nice restaurant near the train station, Casa Bianca. A good shopping centre just outside the main town with a big M&S, a big Boots, Next, TK Max, etc. Merthyr has good roads and it's easy to get to Brecon, Swansea and Cardiff from there.

The purpose of our visit was to see a show at the Borough Theatre. Hence we only stayed one night. We live in Bristol so Abergavenny is not far. However we decided to stay over and have a meal rather than driving back after the show. The Theatre was good and we would visit again. We had dinner at the Anatolian restaurant which was excellent. I know Turkish food and it was good. We would consider visiting again and staying over to do some walking or seeing the sites.

I don't travel too far from the property, as I am happy with the local context, but if you like travelling out, then there is lots on locally and further out of Llandovery. Lots of stillness, peace and enjoying the natural world. Due to allergies, cooking facilities in the property make it really easy for eating in. Solo and families can enjoy lots of walks. A scattering of independent shops and pubs to enjoy.

Hay was one of our favourite places My husband is an avid book reader, collector. In past years he usually found what he would call a little bit of treasure from one of the many bookshops but he was disappointed at how expensive the books were. The town is still delightful and pleasurable to walk around.

Llandeilo is a quaint market Welsh town , steeped in history. it has a good sized Park to walk about, Castle near by, within walking distance. A few interesting shops. A Texaco Petrol station nearby. but no E5 fuel. nearest is in Gorslas, about 15mins drive, 7miles away. We did visit a pub called the White Hart for a big sit down dinner & booked in advance. But found the Pub to be poorly managed & food was pretty poor too. There is another pub/restaurant called The Plough about a mile away. excellent food & Drink choices. Good sized car park & very open. Friendly staff and very attentive. Llandeilo is worth getting out & walking around, has narrow streets & you will miss something quaint & important. Take a camera too

Glasbury village is only a few minutes drive south from Hay on Wye in beautiful countryside an right by the river. The Harp Inn is a great place to stay, it's a pub full of character and you get a very warm welcome from the owners. The facilities and food are brilliant and excellent value for money.
