- From US$242.51 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.8Exceptional - What previous guests thought, 88 reviewsA great room plus luxurious bathroom including a huge walk-in shower plus separate bath, the layout of this converted barn was well thought out, and the facilities were top-notch. Very friendly staff and owners. The car battery failed, and the owners kindly came to pick us up from where we were stranded. Just around the corner of Wasdale, with one of the best hiking options and dramatic scenery to be found in Lake District/England. Would recommend.Guest review byBronneNetherlands

- From US$266.76 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.6Fabulous - What previous guests thought, 2,433 reviewsAn old hotel with a special atmosphere, situated in its own large garden (with rabbits nibbling on the grass...), It was quiet as it is on the town outskirts, but 5 min walk to Keswick center. Access to walking paths direct from the hotel. Parking available on site. We had a nice and relatively large room with a view to the bunnies....The staff was very nice.Guest review byTamarIsrael

Keswick is a beautiful laid back town with lovely restaurants and coffee shops. Fantastic hiking on its door step and great facilities for a small town. We went to the theatre and had a wonderful evening. What makes Keswick so charming is the people, everyone is so friendly and welcoming. Coming from Ireland where people generally are very friendly it was refreshing to see a similar outlook amongst the locals. It is obviously a dog lovers paradise and it attracts a lovely visitor- everyone was so nice, perhaps the atmosphere in the town contributed to this- certainly no larger louts about so I think the town has got the mix just right- we like to visit new places but we will certainly make an exception and come back to KeswickGuest review byAndyIreland - 10.0

I knew nothing of Carlisle prior to my visit and we didn't have long to look round but my main feeling was to wonder why nobody's mentioned how lovely it is. It has some stunning historical buildings to see and the city had a nice vibe. It's also really conveniently located for the Lake District and has rail links directly to it. My husband and I have promised each other a longer trip back.Guest review byVanessa - 8.0

Penrith must be the easiest town in the lakes to access from affar. The M6 for N & S, and the A66 for E & W. Plenty of other feeder roads into the surrounding hills and countryside. A pleasant little town with a mix of corporate chain outlets and lots of indiviudual shops and restaurants. Plenty of choice and variety to suit most tastes. There is the castle to visit aswell, if you like. As touring motorcyclists, we found Penrith is perfectly placed as a base to explore the lakes and hills from and the mountain passes. Probably not worth the journey for itself alone though.Guest review byREVADUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Cockermouth is a lovely town and makes it easy to reach other places at the north of the Lake District. Places to visit Maryport, Silloth, Keswick., Whinlatter. Cockermouth itself has lovely walk along the river and play areas for children.Guest review byGabrielle - 10.0

A quaint little Georgian town on the edge of the Lake...
A quaint little Georgian town on the edge of the Lake District, with a scenic harbour. The Rum Story & Jefferson's Shop is a must see and The Beacon Museum is definitely worth a visit. You can walk on the pier all the way to the end, be careful in bad weather, the block floor is not even. Lots of nice buildings around, many have seen better days but worth a walk around the town. The courtyard and gardens at the little church on Lowther Street are very scenic. The waters in the Queens Dock are an orange colour from the iron leaking in, certainly makes it unique and memorable (investigations into resolving it are underway). The Former Wellington Pit site gives a great view over the town. Lots of local pubs around, I must give a special mention to The Vagabond bar / restaurant, probably the best pizzas we've ever tasted anywhere.Guest review byGregoryUnited Kingdom - 4.0

Calder House Hotel looked to have great views out to sea with a fabulous beach. We experienced a tired run down establishment with a ‘couldn’t be bothered’ staff attitude. Dismissive and inattentive, we would never go back.Guest review byWendyUnited Kingdom - 8.0

Fine town with easy access to beautiful lake district. Has all you need in close proximity. Lots of dodgy driving in town. Stay frosty! If you're exploring the lakes this is great access and after adventure comforts.Guest review byGaryUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Great little place if you want to stay a night after a big walk very cozy and comfortable the weather wasn’t amazing when we were there but added to the cosiness, of the little Shepherds hut hearing the rain outside had a great time. Would stay again.Guest review byNinaUnited Kingdom
