The hotel is perfectly situated minutes from Liverpool one. Tastefully decorated it feels warm and classy. Food menu was limited but everything we ate was delicious. The rooms were smart, clean and comfortable. The real shining star of the trip was the hotel Staff. Every single member of staff was friendly and helpful. It was our first stay at the Halyard and we can’t wait to return.

FAQs about hotels in England

The Small Country with Big Appeal

For a relatively small country, England certainly manages to pack in a wealth of tourist attractions, from Land’s End all the way to Berwick-upon-Tweed.

Words can’t do justice to the capital London - an exciting mix of famous sights, royalty and vibrant life. Manchester, Liverpool and Birmingham are fabulous cities that have emerged from their industrial past to be cutting-edge centres of culture.

Newcastle, Leeds and Bristol are well known for their buzzy music scene, while sedate Oxford and Cambridge are famous for their universities and punting. Stately York still maintains its city walls and Windsor has the wonderful castle where the Queen often resides.

Sheffield and Derby border the magnificent Peak District, while the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales are close to Blackpool, one of England’s favourite beach destinations. Other very popular beaches are in Brighton, Eastbourne, Torquay and Scarborough.

With a beautifully rugged coastline, mystical Cornwall has England hotels in the country, as do the Cotswolds where stone houses line picturesque villages. The Georgian spa cities of Bath and Harrogate also have impressive stone architecture.

This is just the tip of the iceberg of what England has to offer, but wherever you visit, you can be sure that Booking.com has a fantastic range of apartments, B&Bs and hotels in England to choose from.

Meals were delicious and Staff in bar and dining areas were top class and friendly and accommodating. Reception staff were extremely helpful and professional as well. Parking facilities provided were excellent. Would highly recommend this place and will definitely come back.

    London offers something for everyone.

London offers something for everyone. I always try to catch a theatre play or musical (look for 'reduced visibility' or 'last minute' tickets for discounts) and combine my favourite spots and shops (Camden market, Forbidden Planet, Gosh! comics, Gay's The Word, etc.) with an exhibition (the V&A has lots going on) and something a bit further away (e.g. Greenwich by boat, Notting Hill). Shop opening hours are generous (some supermarkets until 22:00) and there are lots of small markets with crafts and foodtrucks (e.g. Bethnal Green, Spitalfields) London is very walkable (there are lots of benches in small parks to rest a few minutes), but do buy an Oyster card for easy travel with the Underground. Most markets, railway stations, and large shops (notably M&Ms World, Foyles) will have (accessible) free toilets. In parks you sometimes have to pay 20 pence with your bank card or credit card. Bring an umbrella, a scarf, and a light jacket/cardigan and you'll be fine most of the year. London is expensive. The 12.5% service charge that is now added to all F&B bills in restaurants and pubs really irks me, because it is supposed to be a voluntary tip, but it's silently added to each bill and if you ask for it to be removed so you can decide for yourself if you want to give a tip, it is not appreciated (note for travellers: the UK is not the USA, tips are not obligatory here, the staff get their income from their employer, not from customers/tips (notwithstanding that service wages are low))

Liverpool has so much to offer with its diversity. Great shops, concerts, museums, the docks, boat trips and much much more. The people are friendly and helpful. Good choice of restaurants and bars to suit everyone. Best way to get around Liverpool is to walk (you discover so much more) alternatively, hop on an open top bus which will take you on a tour around the city. A visit to the Christmas markets is fun, filled with goodies for the kids, food halls, fair ground and tasting stands of different alcohol, cheeses, jams etc taste before you buy - perfect.

The location was perfect for flying out the next morning.

The location was perfect for flying out the next morning. We did choose to pay for the shuttle to Terminal 5, rather than haul our luggage on the free train. It's a very nice hotel, the room was small but comfortable for 1 night, and the beds were fine, though a little on the firm side as the English seem to like. We had a very nice Indian dinner at the Urban Brass conveniently located in the hotel lobby. The Indian choices were authentic and delicious, not overly spicy as Indian food goes. I think the Indian choices are better than the English side of the menu, as it is primarily Indian with a very friendly staff from India. I would recommend this hotel.

York is so full of history and museums and also picturesque on the river Ouse. Probably a walking city though we both took the hop on and off with a very detailed commentary. Definitely have a supreme after noon tea at Betty's, explore the Shambles and other museums that take your fancy. We passed on the Viking Museum as there was too long a cue but Clifford's Tower and adjoining museum was interesting. We also enjoyed the river cruise. The evensong at York Minster was amazing

It’s buzzing with young people and night life. There’s a range of galleries and museums ,the library is a must visit . The variety of Restaurants and cafes offer satisfaction to all tastes and ages. I was pleasantly impressed with what Leeds has to offer. And the future is bright for this lovely city.
