Fabulous city, easy going , feels safe and friendly even late on a Saturday night. Eden Court Theatre , great venue saw the Budapest Cafe Orchestra there who were brilliant entertertainers. Lovely River Walk along tbe Ness. Beautiful Botanic Gardens with great cafe. The Glen Mhor Distillery and Brewery was a great place to chill out and listen to live music. Great beer and whiskey too, taster platters were amazing. The Jamaican restaurant called Kool Runnings served up a fab goat curry and a very much appreciated Mojito 👌

Aviemore is obviously a town built around tourism, and so is fairly expensive, and not particularly historic. But it has all the necessary facilities, with a good choice of bars and restaurants, and its in a great location to explore the Cairngorms.

Like much of the north-west, Ullapool has become expensive following the promotion of the NC500. There has not been a matching increase in quality in some places. Despite the extra visitors and a major recent upgrade to the sea front area there are still empty shops on the front. If this is to remain the premier tourist stop for the north-west it needs someone to give it a bit of a shake. Very sad really, Ullapool is a lovely village and need looking after.

A great place for boat tours of Loch Ness and Urquhart...

A great place for boat tours of Loch Ness and Urquhart Castle is located just outside the village. The village itself is very pleasant with a beautiful village green which had a market on it the day we left. The Fiddlers Restaurant on the village green was a great place to eat, drink and watch the world go by. Urquhart Castle is well worth visiting with a great visitor centre and Loch Ness as a splendid backdrop to the stunning castle remains.
