The place is marvelous itself. House is spacious and very convenient. Extremely well equipped, cozy. There was actually nothing we would not love there. Garden, where otter came through on its way to the sea. Elk came to say Hi. Seals nearby. And in the evening, fireplace with live fire and peaceful view over the bay. Fits well two families. Both having their own privacy, but plenty of space to share as well. All that in the heart of lovely Harris countryside. Simply one of the nicest and the most pleasant places we visited yet.

The house is wonderful as are the people who look after it - nothing is too much trouble if you have a query or need help with something The property is in a little place called Maraig rather than in Tarbert which is about 15 minuts drive away so trust the post code when it takes you off the Tarbert road!

Isle of Harris Brewery is an excellent place to eat & drink. An Clachan is a very well stocked store with an amazing range of quality gifts and practical items upstairs. Borrisdale Tweed is well worth a visit for quality home furnishings. Kilda Cruises are great.

The location is wonderful albeit remote if you intend to explore the island. Walks in the vicinity very enjoyable but generally fairly short. Leverburgh (5 minutes drive) has two cafe/restaurant-places both, we felt, a bit over priced & limited menu (Fish & chips £19.50!!) The "Butty Bus" cheap and cheerful but not always open. Northton has lovely bakery/cake-shop (croft 36) - soups/pasties/pies/cakes. Talla na Mara at Horgabost now only does teas and cakes/soups/sandwiches (used to have a nice restaurant menu) - but has nice collection of crafts/arts outlets. If you're looking to mostly eat out you do need to think ahead, even Tarbert (over half an hour away) has very limited eateries. The east coast road - very windy and narrow (passing places) has a couple of nice galleries and some lovely views/locations -well worth it!

Long walks to fantastic beaches, sunshine, rain combining to give the most fantastic rainbows. Friendly people in a relaxing environment. A special trip from the moment you set foot on the ferry. Many thanks.

This is a spacious and well equipped property with everything you need for a comfortable stay. It is beautifully situated within walking distance of the beach, and has the most wonderful views...and sunsets. It is a little way out of Tarbert, so its a good idea to be well stocked up when you arrive (Tesco does deliver tho') There is a restaurant round the other side of the bay, but it wasn't open for evening meals when we were there. We ate out in the Hotel Hebrides which was lovely and ideal for looking out over the harbour.

Tarbert is quiet, but there are plenty of places to go to from there. It's nice to watch the ferry come and go. Lots of nice wee shops to browse. If you want to visit the distillery, check the opening times. It closes at 12.30 on a Saturday, so we missed it, not having checked beforehand. Be prepared for almost nothing open on a Sunday.

    Paradise in the sunshine

Paradise in the sunshine A tiny but delightful place on southernmost tip of Harris. Rodel church from 1520s is a must see (used for Call the Midwife Xmas special) and Isle of Harris brewery next to the pier does terrific food with friendly service. Short CalMac ferry from here to Uists was magical on a sunny September morning

The locals and shopkeepers we met in the village were very friendly and helpful. The local grocers are good for topping up provisions, if you are self catering and have done a larger shop in Portree before catching the Ferry. The deli, cafe and hotel restaurants are excellent and the North Harbour Bistro on Scalpay is worth a visit and only a short drive away. The Isle of Harris distillery is next to the Ferry Terminal and there is an excellent gift shop across the road from it for little memories and lots of Harris Tweed options Luskentyre beach is less than 20 minutes away Watch out f9r the sheep on the roads!

Beautiful views and lots to do and see.

Beautiful views and lots to do and see. St Clements Church at nearby Rodel is a must. The Isle of Harris Brewery restaurant serves excellent, locally sourced food and has a deli style shop open until restaurant is closing. There is also a very good local store. A good base for exploring the scenic sites, galleries and Harris tweed shops/experince of South Harris. Also a regular ferry service to Berneray from where you can drive to North Uist and beyond or just go as a foot passenger for a day trip. Bus service to Tarbert and around villages of South Harris. Plenty of signposted walks.
