The night life was very lively.

The night life was very lively. However, that might have been due to the Loch Ness Marathon event on Sunday, with around 10,000 runners, and more friends, family and supporters in the town, including myself. All the pubs and restaurants were packed on Saturday night and the train leaving on Monday morning had standing room only. It was a lovely town, with the beautiful, wide, River Ness flowing through it. There seemed to be lots of space to move around and crossing the roads was easy during the day. There a number of lovely parks nearby, including the Torvean parkrun, which I tried out on Saturday.

Oban was great. My booking through Booking.com was terrible.

Oban was great. My booking through Booking.com was terrible. The hotel (Great Western Hotel) was a mess. Booked a third floor “Family Room” ($270), two beds. Upon arrival the elevator (lift) was not working nor had it been working for 8 days before our arrival. My partner uses a cane/walker. Had to walk up the first flight of stairs, even the front desk mentioned she could not walk the stairs as she was winded with the first flight. Offered a first floor room, one bed that was so small you could not get around. Offered a second room… a bit larger but still one bed the carpet had holes, mold in the walls, bathroom was dirty. We opted for a new property again booked through Booking.com. Booking.com offered us a 20pound voucher for our troubles. We have used Booking.com as our go to online booking site. We will no longer be using booking.com as they are willing to book you, but will not back up their booking. Booking.com through reviews (if they cared) would have noticed the negative comments being made. yet still was booking through the website. Even contacting Booking.com my calls were dropped or sent to a dead line.

The fact that we stayed beside the grounds of the Battle of Bannockburn was fantastic, great history, unfortunately the visitor centre was closed during our stay. We were there for the history and were not disappointed, taking in the Stirling Castle, Wallace Monument, Battle of Bannockburn, The Kelpies, and the Falkirk Wheel. Having a rental vehicle with built in navigation was a bonus and made getting around so much easier than if doing so strictly by map.

A wonderful place—I come back every year!

A wonderful place—I come back every year! Paisley is well worth a visit, not only for its charm but also for the warmth and friendliness of the people. There are plenty of great spots to eat and drink; my personal favorites are Roasters Coffee Shop on High Street and the Wetherspoon’s pub conveniently located next to the train station. The town is also extremely well connected: just 10 minutes by train from Glasgow, home to Glasgow Airport, and a little over an hour by train to Edinburgh. Within Paisley itself, there are many attractions to enjoy, such as the historic Abbey and Coats Memorial, and soon the observatory and other sites will reopen to visitors. If you’re traveling to Glasgow, it’s definitely worth taking the time to stop by Paisley for a walk and to soak in its unique atmosphere.
