Friendly people, smiling faces. Very historic and amazing views from the Castle especially. 9 pubs within a 3 minute walk, all serving food. A plethora of restaurants, my favourite being Rustico which sells delicious Pastas and Pizzas. Besides having time with an old friend who lives in Steyning, I especially enjoyed walking up onto the Downs (via the Upper Horseshoe trail) and admiring the wonderful view of the Downs and the sea and the Weald of Sussex. I was impressed by the Community Orchard and the conservation scheme to re-establish species-rich chalk grassland. I made good use of the buses - would have been stranded without them! I enjoyed a brief visit to the parish church and was sorry not to have more time to have a good look round the museum. We stayed at The Roundabout Hotel as it was in an ideal location for all that we had planned on our pre-Christmas break. Pulborough suited our needs and enabled us to visit our friends who live nearby and also Arundel, the Petworth and Goodwood, and Chichester. Petworth is a delightful small market town with many antique and independent shops, pubs and cafes, a well-stocked Co-op, a post office and a spectacular National Trust property! A regular bus service runs to Chichester and Midhurst which takes in spectacular views of the National Park.
