A Perfect Combination of Culture and Fun
A favoured weekend destination, the island of Andros is only an hour and a half away from Athens. Named after Andros, a hero descending from the line of God Apollo, this beautiful island features traditional villages, golden beaches, high mountains, small rivers and green valleys.
Featuring great nautical tradition and home to famous Greek sailors, Andros is not similar with any other island in the Cyclades. This small paradise is a great cultural destination thanks to its many museums and their unique collections of paintings, sculptures and archaeological exhibits.
The lovely Chora is the capital of Andros and one of the most popular villages of the island. Wander around the narrow alleys, admire the Neoclassical and Venetian-style houses, and admire the beautiful stone bridge.
Rich in history, the island has several towers including the tower of Ayios Petros and Fryktoria. Built by Venetians, the Pano Kastro was the largest city in Andros during the Middle Ages.
Built over a gorgeous natural harbour, the resort of Batsi has a sandy beach, shallow waters and nice taverns serving local specialties. Booking.com has a great selection of hotels, apartments and guest houses in the magnificent Batsi.

- From US$51.74 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 7.9Good - What previous guests thought, 1,041 reviewsThe hotel is perfectly located in a walking distance from Gavrio port. We were a bit afraid that rolling our two 20 kg suitcases from the ferry to the hotel will not be manageable and considered even a taxi for a while... However, the walk was relatively short, on the pavement although a bit uphill. Our room facing the sea and southern direction was spacious, comfortable, functional and clean. It had a good size balcony with the table, chairs and place to dry wet clothes. We were missing a kettle in the kitchen and the reception delivered it without delay. The room was cleaned every day and trash removed. We could park our rented car safely in the property every night. We didn't use the swimming pool and the bar due to late arrivals from our sightseeing. The hotel is a good choice for tourists who drive a lot around the island and don't spend too much time in hotel facilities. It is convenient location for ferry transfers and good option for eating in town not needing taking a car.Guest review byAGNIESZKAPoland
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.0Superb - What previous guests thought, 436 reviewsThe hotel is simply great. The personnel is very nice and professional: they do everything to feel you at home, and succeed brilliantly. The location is great, right on the (private) beach, with a WOW! sea. The pool is very nice, too. Although there is not a proper internal restaurant, there is the possibility of having salads, pizzas, snacks (delicious) all over the day, and even brought to your sunbed on the beach. Really wonderful, we have been completely satisfied. The buffet breakfast is very rich, and delicious.Guest review bybart14061977Italy
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.1Superb - What previous guests thought, 243 reviewsThe entire estate is A-mazing. I deeply recommend this peace of eden to anyone. The views are incredible, the staff is super nice, food is delicious. Everything on the estate is just wow. And then the beautiful Zorkos beach 5 min walk from the property. One of the best beaches in Greece. And also the road to property is in a good shape, so no problems at all. We could just stay here! I recommend this to families and to couples for a romantic getaway. You will not regret it!Guest review byCicaSlovenia
- From US$99.94 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.1Superb - What previous guests thought, 114 reviewsPerfect location to access the sandy beaches across the street. We spent all our time at Kaliva Beach Lounge. Miss Irene was warm and welcoming and provided a great breakfast every morning. Each day was something new- a special bread or a different egg dish. They really do make an effort for a nice start to the day.Guest review byJamesGreece

It’s the best place to stay on the island as it has something for everyone. Amazing beaches, awesome cafes and fantastic taverns with breathtaking views. The beaches are crystal clear and there are heaps to choose from. All within walking distance.Guest review byDinaAustralia - 4.0
Not a hospitable island!
Not a hospitable island! Third class and expensive facilities. Most of the locals are rude and it seems that they do not like visitors! If you want to visit Greece there are at least 100 beautiful islands and places to visit . This was the worst experience that I had in Greece and I feel ashamed that these guys claim to be Greeks Greeks are very friendly people ! Most of the islands even if they are small offer very good facilities! Do not waste your money and time in Andros . Concluding I would like to mention that I was very Impressed by the “Skalakia “ restaurant in chora! Excellent food and service. Mrs Maria was extremely friendly and professional. Make sure you reserve a table ahead of time.Guest review byHelenUnited States - 6.0

We were there in May so not quite season. It’s very small but served as a good base to visit the island. Some good tavernas. Bit nothing else to do there. Not a beach nearby that is nice for swimming or tanning so would probably recommend Batsi over Gavrio.Guest review byChristineNamibia - 10.0

This is an ideal place if you don't like to be in the capital city with a lot of noise and traffic. You are far enough from the street and have your own peace and quiet, and at the same time you are very close to the city where there is entertainment and an active nightlife. Everything you need is in the area, restaurants, shops, beaches etcGuest review byMiroslav PetrovicSerbia - 10.0

This is an amazing natural beach, some parts are sandy and others with small white pebbles. Not a lot of people around on the time of my visit (June). The surrounding landscape is beautiful. There is a small tavern above the beach.Guest review byMichael PapaioannouGreece - 10.0

Ano Aprovato presents an optimal setting for hiking...
Ano Aprovato presents an optimal setting for hiking enthusiasts. Beginners can embark on a picturesque route stretching from the western region to the heart of Andros, connecting with the semi-mountainous village of Ano Aprovato. This path predominantly traces the historic trail traversing the western and southern slopes of Mount Petalo. It maintains a relatively level trajectory, offering captivating vistas spanning from the mountain's coastal edge to the island's interior. Spectacular panoramas unfold, encompassing views of the sea, the valley of Megalos Potamos River, and the coastal town of Chora with its twin bays. For more seasoned hikers seeking a challenge, there's a 10.9km point-to-point trail near Ano Aprovato. This route, deemed moderately demanding, typically requires around 3 hours and 15 minutes to complete. Ideal for both hiking and running, this trail promises solitude amidst nature's embrace, with encounters with fellow explorers being rare. Accessible year-round, it boasts timeless beauty, beckoning adventurers at any season.Guest review byDimitrisGreece - 10.0

International cuisine but look for the hidden gems in little back streets with local food. Local taxi service in the square -but walk...its healthier! We had no children with us but this isnt 'waterworld'....take the kids to some fantastic quiet beaches away from the hoi polloi- theyll have more of an adventure of discovery.Guest review bySteveUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Lots to do on this beautiful island for all ages. We visited Gerolimni waterfall, Cave Foros, Korthi, the olive mill, the comtemporary art gallery. It was lovely to walk round the town and look at the statues, ancient fort the lighthouse a d takein the ambience. The local dive instructor was brilliant. Ran out of time for Batsi, wine tasting and some of the other museums. Lots of amazing restaurants too.Guest review byZoe - 8.0

This destination is delightful, offering a wide array of culinary options. The local cheeses are exceptional, and you'll discover restaurants that cater to both casual diners and those seeking a more upscale experience. The ambiance is tranquil, making it an ideal retreat. Renting a car is advisable to fully explore the island’s beauty. While September may be slightly cooler, it also offers a more serene atmosphere.Guest review byMelissaIreland
