A Perfect Combination of Culture and Fun
A favoured weekend destination, the island of Andros is only an hour and a half away from Athens. Named after Andros, a hero descending from the line of God Apollo, this beautiful island features traditional villages, golden beaches, high mountains, small rivers and green valleys.
Featuring great nautical tradition and home to famous Greek sailors, Andros is not similar with any other island in the Cyclades. This small paradise is a great cultural destination thanks to its many museums and their unique collections of paintings, sculptures and archaeological exhibits.
The lovely Chora is the capital of Andros and one of the most popular villages of the island. Wander around the narrow alleys, admire the Neoclassical and Venetian-style houses, and admire the beautiful stone bridge.
Rich in history, the island has several towers including the tower of Ayios Petros and Fryktoria. Built by Venetians, the Pano Kastro was the largest city in Andros during the Middle Ages.
Built over a gorgeous natural harbour, the resort of Batsi has a sandy beach, shallow waters and nice taverns serving local specialties. Booking.com has a great selection of hotels, apartments and guest houses in the magnificent Batsi.

- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.4Very good - What previous guests thought, 342 reviewsThe hotel's location is particularly good and close to the village center. There is free parking space opposite the hotel, and everything you need is available at the supermarket next door. Inside, the rooms are spotless and comfortable, and the one we stayed in (118) had a wonderful view. Although it is located on the street, there was no urban noise at night with the windows closed. Nice beds and comfortable pillows. The reception, pool bar, breakfast, and room cleaning staff were extremely polite and helpful in every way. Overall impression: excellent so far. Issues for consideration: 1) Small shower size, barely fits a normal-sized person, resulting in water dripping from the shower onto the floor with a real risk of someone slipping and hurting themselves. We had a similar issue. 2) For six days, breakfast was the same every day, with no variation or addition of local flavors, but it was complete and satisfying for all tastes. 3) The way the pool cleaning "manager" communicated and reminded us of the pool rules, and as I noticed, only to us, even though we reverently followed the rules, which are common in every similar space. Also, one morning, the same man, who claimed to be "in charge," addressed a man with whom he was transporting a refrigerator in a pickup truck, using loud and vulgar Greek slang, completely disregarding the presence of customers at the pool, including children who understand the Greek language.Guest review byNikolaosGreece
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.5Exceptional - What previous guests thought, 250 reviewsIt was an unexpected but excellent choice. The hotel was spotlessly clean, and the staff worked tirelessly to ensure our comfort and happiness. From check-in to check-out, it was a wonderful experience. The welcome drinks were refreshing as we were exhausted because of the long travel day. We enjoyed the pool to cool down, had a local beer by the pool, and then headed to the nearby beach for a short dip. The turn-down service was a pleasant surprise, and we enjoyed the little treats before a good, peaceful sleep. Breakfast was great with plenty of choices and served by helpful staff. Parking was convenient and secure. Although we didn't have time, the spa seemed welcoming, but we will definitely use it next time.Guest review byOzanTurkey
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 7.3Good - What previous guests thought, 771 reviewsA gorgeous property in a fabulous location. The room had its own private balcony with view over pool and side view of the ocean. The hotel is older with heaps of Greek character, beautiful stone floors. It has a large open lounge and outside sitting area with view to the ocean. The breakfast was fabulous, and the staff were super friendly and helpful. Small fridge in the room. Heaps of on-site parking. It’s own little private beach in a sheltered and private cove! Only 5 minute walk to the ferry. Next time I come to Andros this will be my base for the entire time!Guest review byJanineNew Zealand
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.9Fabulous - What previous guests thought, 133 reviewsGreat apartment very close to a beach and the lovely centre of Batsi. Plenty of shops, restaurants, tavernas within easy walk. Batsi is a convenient location from which to explore the rest of the island particularly if you have a car. Trips to Andros town, villages and many beaches are easily achieved from this location. The hosts are super friendly and very welcoming. We were made to feel like friends coming back to a familiar resort. The resort is away from the main road making it very quiet of an evening.Guest review byGregoryAustralia

Nice picturesque, unspoilt village but with good places to eat, bars, shops and a friendly welcome most places you go. The beach is pleasant and sun beds not too extortionate at 20 euros a pair. These is a good bus service plus hire cars and taxis available. There are a lot of Greek islands to visit but I wouldn’t mind going back to Batsi.Guest review byRobertUnited Kingdom - 4.0
Not a hospitable island!
Not a hospitable island! Third class and expensive facilities. Most of the locals are rude and it seems that they do not like visitors! If you want to visit Greece there are at least 100 beautiful islands and places to visit . This was the worst experience that I had in Greece and I feel ashamed that these guys claim to be Greeks Greeks are very friendly people ! Most of the islands even if they are small offer very good facilities! Do not waste your money and time in Andros . Concluding I would like to mention that I was very Impressed by the “Skalakia “ restaurant in chora! Excellent food and service. Mrs Maria was extremely friendly and professional. Make sure you reserve a table ahead of time.Guest review byHelenUnited States - 6.0

We were there in May so not quite season. It’s very small but served as a good base to visit the island. Some good tavernas. Bit nothing else to do there. Not a beach nearby that is nice for swimming or tanning so would probably recommend Batsi over Gavrio.Guest review byChristineNamibia - 10.0

This is an ideal place if you don't like to be in the capital city with a lot of noise and traffic. You are far enough from the street and have your own peace and quiet, and at the same time you are very close to the city where there is entertainment and an active nightlife. Everything you need is in the area, restaurants, shops, beaches etcGuest review byMiroslav PetrovicSerbia - 10.0

This is an amazing natural beach, some parts are sandy and others with small white pebbles. Not a lot of people around on the time of my visit (June). The surrounding landscape is beautiful. There is a small tavern above the beach.Guest review byMichael PapaioannouGreece - 10.0

Ano Aprovato presents an optimal setting for hiking...
Ano Aprovato presents an optimal setting for hiking enthusiasts. Beginners can embark on a picturesque route stretching from the western region to the heart of Andros, connecting with the semi-mountainous village of Ano Aprovato. This path predominantly traces the historic trail traversing the western and southern slopes of Mount Petalo. It maintains a relatively level trajectory, offering captivating vistas spanning from the mountain's coastal edge to the island's interior. Spectacular panoramas unfold, encompassing views of the sea, the valley of Megalos Potamos River, and the coastal town of Chora with its twin bays. For more seasoned hikers seeking a challenge, there's a 10.9km point-to-point trail near Ano Aprovato. This route, deemed moderately demanding, typically requires around 3 hours and 15 minutes to complete. Ideal for both hiking and running, this trail promises solitude amidst nature's embrace, with encounters with fellow explorers being rare. Accessible year-round, it boasts timeless beauty, beckoning adventurers at any season.Guest review byDimitrisGreece - 10.0

Lots to do on this beautiful island for all ages. We visited Gerolimni waterfall, Cave Foros, Korthi, the olive mill, the comtemporary art gallery. It was lovely to walk round the town and look at the statues, ancient fort the lighthouse a d takein the ambience. The local dive instructor was brilliant. This destination is delightful, offering a wide array of culinary options. The local cheeses are exceptional, and you'll discover restaurants that cater to both casual diners and those seeking a more upscale experience. The ambiance is tranquil, making it an ideal retreat. Renting a car is advisable to fully explore the island’s beauty. While September may be slightly cooler, it also offers a more serene atmosphere.Guest review byMelissaIreland
