If you're looking for a place you can stop, drop, and do nothing for a few days to a week, this is perfect. We didn't need to leave the hotel at all - the rooms, pool, beach, everything, was better than expected. The staff are so helpful and friendly, they really made our stay there 10/10. I booked in for a massage in the spa which was exceptional, and the gym facilities are small but very new and modern. You can even book the gym out completely so you have the entire space to yourself. We don't have kids yet but there were many children there kept entertained at the kids club. When we do have children, I would 100% come back to Thalatta as I know they'll have a fun experience too! The breakfast is also outstanding. We go there a day or two early arriving from Athens to board our cruise ship. Piraeus is a lovely city. Almost next door is a new building with a bar looking out over the harbour. Picturesque city with a multitude of bars and restaurants. A few high end clothing stores, and many many businesses selling jewelry, clothes, souvenirs and fridge magnets. We loved staying in Oia, mid October had perfect weather! The crowds were not too bad expect for when the cruise ships came in, we avoided the town from 10am to around 1:00pm, evenings during the sunsets it gets crowded but it worth it to watch the sun go down, the sky lights up and is so beautiful, you can't miss it. Schedule a catamaran or private boat cruise, we highly recommend getting on the water to see it from the sea. Like many Cretan coastal towns and villages, Rethymno is overwhelmed by us tourists. It's distressing to walk very crowded mediaeval streets surrounded by souvenir shops. The famous bakeries are wonderful and the harbour is really beautiful. Parking has been addressed but the experience is still not pleasant. We found having a drink and a light meal on the waterfront a joyless experience, crowded area and surly service. The people in Naxos were all so kind and thoughtful. The town felt very authentic. The food was delicious. The island had many charming places , but was difficult to navigate.
