Beautiful town but horrifically expensive. If you box clever you can find ways around the extortionate prices. However, it is a magical place full of lovely local people. Too crowded by the hoards of cruise ship daytrippers but once they are gone, the town gets a different and more relaxed vibe. Split & the whole of Croatia has so much history to explore. I would recommend a walking tour, unfortunately we did not have enough time. The shops are lovely to walk around, blended into Diocletian's palace, beautiful place. Picasso's cafeb/bar beside our accommodation was lovely for breakfast, get there early as it fills up quickly. A charming old town with a lovely port. The climb to the mausoleum is well worth the effort, offering views around the headland. There a plenty of restaurants offering great food and a relaxing atmosphere to enjoy the views across the bay. We used Mlini for a night before flying out of Dubrovnik Airport. We started our Croatia holiday in Split, then did a Bike and Boat through the islands, ending up in Dubrovnik. Seeing how far Dubrovnik is from the airport, I sought closer accommodations, and it was a quick 10 minutes in the early morning when our driver picked us up at 5:40 a.m. After being there, for one day, I wish I could have spent several days there just relaxing!Guest review byBarbaraUnited States
