Portlaoise is a lovely town with plenty to offer.
Portlaoise is a lovely town with plenty to offer. We enjoyed great coffee at Chocolate Brown and Square Coffee, visited beautiful local churches, and found a variety of excellent restaurants. Shopping was convenient, and overall the town felt very safe and welcoming.Guest review byShaneIreland - 10.0
The hotel is beautifully presented and well maintained.
The hotel is beautifully presented and well maintained. The staff could not offer any more assistance than they did, always going that extra which makes the difference when deciding if we are willing to go back. I could not recommend this hotel more and will definitely be going back but for a longer stay.Guest review byColinUnited Kingdom - 6.0

I stayed there because my parents used to live just outside of the town and the hole family returned to reunite are mum with my dad who is buried there, a lot of the town has sadly closed down and there’s and there’s not a lot to do or see during the day every thing is closed and it’s hard to get anything to eat or drink.Guest review byeileenUnited Kingdom - 8.0
Mountmellick is a quiet town.
Mountmellick is a quiet town. It offers some sites and history (founded by Quakers), but more importantly if you are staying there, the area is well sited for day excursions to other sites. It is a quiet, mostly farming community.Guest review byRachelUnited States - 10.0

We wanted to stay near Rathdowney as we did research at the library regarding ancestors. We booked at the Ashbrook Arms in Durrow. WHAT A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE. The Ashbrook Arms is absolutely lovely. The property had been a carriage house in the last century. Beautifully restored, and the owners are kind and helpful. We enjoyed an evening at Bob's Pub across the street. Enjoyed the locals dancing and singing. The town is beautiful and walkable. The Durrow Castle and the local parks are a must see. Durrow is a memorable part of our tour of IRELAND.Guest review bymaureenUnited States - 10.0

Didn't get very far, arrived late and found a lovely pub the Fisherman with good Guiness and a Mexican food trailer pulled up serving excellent Buritos and other delights. Took a lovely walk on the local canal way the next morning before we headed off.Guest review byAnthonyIreland - 6.0

Wanted to eat in proper Irish pub with live music as we have done at several other locations. Loads of bars, none serving food. Plenty of takeaways but didn’t want to sit on a bench to eat. Stayed at end of holiday so wanted to take home some local produce, cheese, bread, cakes but just one supermarket selling same as UK. Handy stopping off point between Killarney and Dublin but little else going for itGuest review byRobertUnited Kingdom - 10.0

The apartment was fully furnished with high end sofas, beds, bed linen, towels etc. The heating was on a timer and came on throughout our stay. The kitchen was very well equipped and they had even left coffee, tea, sugar etc. It was a two minute walk to The Heritage Hotel which we ate in (gorgeous food) and there are plenty of lovely walks in the area. The apartment even has a lift! A beautiful apartment to stay in. We will definitely be back again soon.Guest review byMargotIreland - 10.0

Abbeyleix seems to exist in a timewarp - in the best possible sense. Absolutely charming little town with the friendliest inhabitants. Morrisey's Bar was one of the most atmospheric places imaginable - it was like stepping back in time.Guest review byterryUnited Kingdom
