The town is wonderful, a very good size, lots of shops and things to do. The music in some of the pubs in town is great too. I drove out to Croagh Patrick which is stunning. Lots of beautiful scenery and beaches within a short distanceGuest review byBarnes - 6.0
Plenty of shops, bars and restaurants.
Plenty of shops, bars and restaurants. The National Museum of Ireland is just a few minutes drive away. Castlebar is ideally located for exploring County Mayo. The local library is excellent too with very friendly helpful staff who were only too willing to help with a little family history enquiry. We only stayed for one night and had our main meal in Lana, an Asian restaurant. The food was lovely and plentiful. So much so, we didn't bother with breakfast the following day.Guest review byGeorgeUnited Kingdom - 8.0
Ballina is like most towns or cities now.
Ballina is like most towns or cities now. Outside influences are starting to take hold. The addition of some of the fast food shops and multiple barbers is a manifestation I find worrying. The old charm of the town is not what it was.Guest review byAnonymous - 10.0
Cong is a beautiful historic village with its own dramatic...
Cong is a beautiful historic village with its own dramatic ruined Abbey and the extraordinarily beautiful woods adjacent to Ashford Castle. There are many lovely walking trails amidst the huge trees - that include some redwoods. Sadly, many trees were downed during the devastating Storm Eowyn in January 2025, so a number of trails, including access to Lough Corrib beach, have been blocked. Also, be aware that this is a popular tourist area and buses can disgorge large groups at any time during the day. All the more reason to stay overnight!Guest review byRobertUnited States - 10.0

Belmullet is a small town but has everything you need. There are plenty of bars and restaurants and it is ideal for a break away. The tidal pool is really nice for a swim and there are some really lovely long sandy beaches within a few miles of the townGuest review byJoanIreland - 10.0

Claremorris is a lovely town, plenty of shops, bars and restaurants to visit. It's an excellent base for visiting Galway City and also Co Galway, Co Mayo and Knock Shrine (a must). Only half an hour drive from Ireland West Airport. Loved staying at the McWilliam Park Hotel.Guest review byPatriciaUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Mulranny is so central to North South East and West Mayo.
Mulranny is so central to North South East and West Mayo. We visited Achill, did Croagh Patrick and cycled the Greenway. Mulranny itself is so beautiful with lovely walkways and excellent beaches for swimming. Had a local shop well supplied and two main Bars with entertainment on the Saturday night. Westport and Newport are well worth visiting and there is so much more we did not get around to doing.Guest review byPatriciaIreland - 10.0
The parkrun on the greenway was lovely.
The parkrun on the greenway was lovely. We did a boat trip with seascape safaris - around the nearby islands and saw birds, seals, dolphins etc. Lots of lovely beaches, some historical monuments and several information boards at various locations around the island supplying local history. Surprising good food. We lunched , then the next day caked at , I think it was called An Dun - gorgeous food and amazing views of Sliabh Mór. We had dinner 3 nights, each hotel and Teds. All very good though my personal favourite was Teds. I would happily go back for another visit - beautiful location for walking, running, swimming or generally relaxingGuest review byLauraIreland - 10.0

Very central if you want to cycle the Greenway from.Newport out to Achill Island. It doesn't suffer from over=tourism. Pub food near the accommodation was good. Its a very pretty village in a great location and perfect for a couple of night's stay. Sharon the owner was very helpful..Guest review byAnonymousUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Keel is a charming beach town with a laid back vibe. We lived exploring the island and learning more about the history. The abandoned village and the Neolithic court and passage tombs nearby are totally worth a visit!Guest review byEllenUnited States
