FAQs about hotels in Abruzzo
Unspoilt Nature and World-Class Wine
From the Apennines to the Adriatic, unspoilt nature is what the Abruzzo is all about. Between hilltop towns and sandy beaches are swathes of rolling countryside and magnificent mountains.
The capital L’Aquila is being rebuilt following the earthquake that sadly left a devastating mark. This city and the medieval hill town Teramo sit in the foothills of the Gran Sasso National Park. This fantastic park is home to a rare antelope, wolves and wild boar, the latter of which can be found alongside brown bears in the Abruzzo National Park further south.
Most Abruzzo National Park hotels and one of the 5-star Abruzzo hotels are in Pescasseroli, a top ski resort. Roccaraso is also popular for skiing. To the north, Sulmona gave birth to Ovid and ‘confetti’, sugared almonds that Italians present as gifts. Its largest square Piazza Garibaldi hosts several events.
To the north-east is Chieti, a lovely hilltop town with an archaeological museum detailing the region’s rich history. Its closest resort is Pescara, whose long, sandy beach is only interrupted by its large port. Another popular beach is at Vasto, just north of the Molise border.
Whether you choose one of the Abruzzo hotels, apartments or B&Bs on Booking.com, you won’t be far from a vineyard producing the region’s famous Montepulciano d’Abruzzo wine.

- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.0Superb - What previous guests thought, 632 reviewsHotel Sole has everything you would expect from a top-class, international chain but it is run and owned by a delightful and friendly family. The room was large, cleaned daily, towels changed and had a super balcony and view of the beach only a few yards away. It has a quiet and calm atmosphere. There are sun-beds and umberellas on the beach for hotel guests, and a lovely pool. At the beach is a super cafe run by by a lovely chap, very friendly and helpful. The hotel has bus stops outside, only 10 minutes to Pescara centre. I woul recommend Hotel Sole to everyone and would definitely stay there again.Guest review byPeterUnited Kingdom

The sea was amazing, the public beach was nice but there is not much space for everyone, I think the city government should increase some space. The food is very tasty, the people are very friendly and helpful. I would like to come back.Guest review byAnastasiaItaly - 8.0

The old town has some wonderful architecture and a beautiful square full of life. The main street is stylish and people very friendly. But it was devastated in 2006 (?) by a powerful earthquake and there is still a lot of building work.Guest review bySarahSpain - 10.0

We went to a local canteen-like-restaurant by the marina, where all the locals go. I had lasagne which turned out to be fish and prawn. I was surprised but it was gorgeous. They served it cold, but you can ask them to heat it up (we found out afterwards). We were staying in Vasto town but arrived by train and mistakenly got off 2 stops further along. There are several versions of Vasto.... but we were able to get a bus to the marina... eat.. and then we got the bus again to Vasto town as it was uphill, it was hot, and we had luggage.Guest review byAliUnited Kingdom - 4.0
The streets of the city are very dirty.
The streets of the city are very dirty. Paper, cigarette, butts, dog shit, vomit. For two weeks we have not seen the city streets cleaned. The main impression of the city is dirt, dirt and more dirt. To the point of nausea.Guest review byElenaHungary - 8.0

We enjoyed daily walks along the lungomare from Alba Adriatica to Giulianova. Had we stayed longer, we would have walked the 3.3km up the hill (230m altitude) to Tortoreto Alto. There are many good restaurants and cafes.Guest review byMr_ScienceUnited States - 10.0
Giulianova is a cozy town on the shores of the Adriatic Sea.
Giulianova is a cozy town on the shores of the Adriatic Sea. The long coastline has many wonderful beaches with golden sand. The embankment along the sea is full of flowers. There are long, comfortable bike paths that are used by many visitors to the city. For lovers of antiquity, there is a beautiful center on the hill. Food, vine and relax are perfect in Giulianova.Guest review byKapustian - 10.0
Chieti is an ancient city going back 9000 years.
Chieti is an ancient city going back 9000 years. The Greeks and Roman developed the city calling it Teate. The center has the quaint narrow streets and old buildings which give the city its charm. Chieti is a small city where you can escape the massive hordes of tourists you find in Florence and Venice. However the city allows you to have a real Italian experience. Rome is only a two hour drive away. There is the natural aspect Chieti. The Gran Sasso are enormous mountains. There are forests and hiking trails. The Abbruzzese are some of the friendliest Italians in Italy. Fifteen minutes away is the Metropolitan city of Pescara and the Adriatic Sea. Chieti does have many things to offer in a unique and prime location.Guest review byMichaelUnited States - 8.0
Once you get to the town, it is lovely and very accessible...
Once you get to the town, it is lovely and very accessible on foot. The cliff-top promenade is beautiful, especially in sunshine or in the early evening by lamp light. Consider visiting the town cemetery, with its very moving memorial to the 1,314 Ortona residents who died as German and mainly Canadian troops battled in vicious house-to-house fighting in December 1943 during World War II. Histories only discuss the military dead and injured. More than 75 percent of the town had to be rebuilt after soldiers on both sides destroyed homes and buildings either to create barriers or to battle their enemy. But it was the Ortona townspeople who had to pick up the pieces. Take some time to locate the old Ortona Zoo, whose former animal cages are now used by artists as workshops. And be sure to bring some cat food for the half dozen or so very friendly cats who share the area with the artists. The old zoo is located along the pedestrian foot path about 15 feet below the northerly end of the cliff promenade.Guest review byAndresUnited States - 10.0

Pescara is a charming seaside city that is a little off the "beaten path" so you can find a lot of local activities like street markets and concerts under the stars. It's conveniently connected by regional train to smaller coastal towns in the "Costa dei trabocchi" -- an area with historic structures on wooden piers that used to be used for fishermen and are now beautiful restaurants to visit and enjoy 360' views of the sea. Also a great option to bike in some areas along the "via Verde." You must try the grilled skewered sheep meat, called arrosticini, which is a regional specialty -- alongside shellfish and other fresh seafood! If you have time, taking a trip into the nearby mountains to visit a refuggio, go hiking, or simply enjoy the mountain views or small medieval towns is well worth it! Ferries from nearby cities accessible by train (Ancona, Bari) can link you across the Adriatic sea to continue your adventure in Croatia or Montenegro.Guest review byjuliaCroatia
