Staying at Mayseion Matera was, without a doubt, one of the most remarkable experiences of my entire travel journey — and I travel a lot. Nothing I write here will ever be enough to describe what it truly means to stay at this hotel. From the very first moment, every detail exceeded my expectations: the impeccable and genuinely warm hospitality, the outstanding cuisine that turned each meal into a memory, the rooms that combine absolute comfort with the historical soul of Matera, and the team that goes above and beyond to make every guest feel truly special. Mayseion is not just a hotel — it’s an extraordinary experience. Every moment here felt unique and unforgettable, the kind of place that makes you understand why Matera is so magical, while giving you the rare feeling of finding a home away from home. I’ve already been recommending it to everyone I know, and for the first time ever, I felt compelled to leave a review on Booking.com. That’s how special this stay was.

The Sassi is a must experience in your lifetime place!

The Sassi is a must experience in your lifetime place! A TukTuk tour is best if you have mobility issues as did a family member. The local wines and cuisine Materana are delicious and Restaurante Stano is a very good choice for an elegant evening out. Get up early and walk around the circumference of the Sassi before everyone else gets there, it’s magical. We missed the cistern tour due to a film being shot so if it’s open you must go down.

We had the most amazing meal at La Torre restaurant, Giuseppe is an amazing chef. His wife is an amazing host. Our food was of a very high standard and very well presented. I had a glass of red wine that was from the area. I so regret not taking a box home. Absolutely, love our stay. Unfortunately we only stayed one night. Will go back for sure.

I liked the old city center area, all the restaurants and shops just a short walk on mostly level ground. It seemed very safe! I would have liked to see the museum but it was a little too far and down a steep hill for a troublesome knee. A little knowledge of Italian and a translation app was helpful. The people would work with you and overall we’re very kind.

Marinagri offers very unique vibe. It is peaceful and very tranquil, you will feel welcome and safe. Policoro is a small city. However it is very cute and people are kind, the weather is great in September. The reason I decided to travel to Marinaagri is sailing in the Ionian Sea. My sailing experience was sensational and I am happy I discovered new destination for my new sailing journeys. The food is amazing I did visited Nemo restaurant, this is very unique place with amazing food choices an first you may think it is a fast food place but I’d you go to Policoro you must try it it is amazing. Seafood is fresh and local and very tasty.

We spent 36 hours in Pietrapertossa and certainly could’ve stayed another day. We explored much of this charming village, but certainly didn’t see all there was to see. We walked to Castelmezzano and had a wonderful lunch there, but could’ve spent more time there as well. The Lucan Dolomites really are a gem there in the middle of southern Italy. I’m so glad we went.

A very interesting place with lots to see. Take good walking shoes, if you can, as there is a rocky trail from the town that we didn’t try as we didn’t have good footware. We weren’t lucky with our choice of eateries but were assured that others had been.

Loved going up to Christ the Redeemer it was a fantastic view of the area.Worth the zigzag drive up . We went into the village and down by the boat harbour for dinner . Had the best ever dessert at 1999 ll Ristorante. The food there was amazing . Loved the beach ,the water felt warm , great for swimming. The only thing we found difficult was parking . It’s easy to find your way around but parking is difficult.

An interesting city for a short visit.

An interesting city for a short visit. A nice Archeological museum (general tours are in Italian exclusively). The city is rich in its theatre but unfortunately, we came out of a season. The historic city centre is situated on the top of a high natural hill; verticals in the city are striking. Therefore, free public elevators are quite ordinary means of transportation.
