The beauty of this place stems from many small things that, together, lead to a wonderful and memorable stay. Whether the atmosphere of a newly renovated premise that kept the spirit of a 16th-century palazzo alive (check out the mirrored tables in the breakfast room), a very warm welcome from the young lady at reception (super helpful and knowledgeable), or the delicious prima colazione that prepares you for your Napoli adventures. The location is extremely central and secure, and the charming elevator, which still operates on 10-cent coins, adds another aspect of Naples’ authenticity. Giambattista della Porta, the famous Renaissance scholar who gave this palazzo his name, would have loved the good vibes his former home provides today. We will be back.

We had a very comfortable room with a queen size and a twin bed. The rain shower had great pressure and lots of hot water. Air conditioning was excellent as well as WiFi and tv. The staff was very helpful and happily answered any questions we had about how to get around in Pompeii and good restaurants. There was a lovely little garden where we winded down our days with a cocktail prepared in the bar. Breakfast was more than adequate and the bonus was that it was 2 blocks from the train station station and a 15 minute walk from the entrance to the archeological site of Pompeii

FAQs about hotels in Campania

Stunning Scenery and Remarkable Ruins

Wonderful beach resorts, a wealth of history and winding, cliff-hugging roads – these are just a few reasons why Campania is so admired.

Spreading around a bay, the capital Naples is a mix of monumental architecture and narrow streets. Known for pizza and pulsating life night and day, it extends along the coast towards Pozzuoli, site of a Roman amphitheatre and the Phlegrean Fields volcanic area.

The most notorious volcano is of course Vesuvius, whose eruption in 79AD destroyed Pompei and Herculaneum. The ruins of both are an amazing insight into the sophistication of the Romans. Even older are the well-preserved Greek temples at Paestum.

Agropoli sits on a rocky promontory overlooking a beach and harbour, and beautiful Palinuro is at the tip of the Cilento National Park. Other fantastic Campania resorts are on the amazing Amalfi Coast. Ravello, high on a hill, offers stunning coastal views, while Amalfi and Positano cascade down to the sea. Around the peninsula is Sorrento, home to several 5-star Campania hotels, while offshore are the fabulous islands of Capri and Ischia.

Inland Caserta has an impressive Royal Palace with huge gardens, and Avellino nestles in a valley between the port of Salerno and Benevento, site of yet more Roman remains. See Booking.com for an excellent range of apartments, B&Bs and hotels in Campania.

Time at the monastero is everything you might expect for a 5 star resort experience with some notable distinctions. Amazing attention to detail and systems of management, result in a sense of tranquility which is hugely amplified by the monastery setting. This really can't be overstated. The peaceful environment they create here is quite precious. Secondly, having a limited number guests (20), means that there is a sense of privacy missing from some resorts or hotels. Thirdly, the views are literally some of the best photos from our trip. Fourthly, the generosity and warmth of the staff in every area is 100% consistent. A great credit to management. Loved our stay. Obviously not an every holiday option, but a special stay that will be remembered for a very long time.

We loved the lower-key vibe of this city.

We loved the lower-key vibe of this city. It was the perfect ending of our near 5 week European trip. Crowds (in early Oct), were moderate and not at all oppressive and 95% of everything to do in Sorrento was an easy 20 min walk or less. We loved taking a day trip to Capri and leisurely shopping there and in Sorrento. Getting to and from the train station to our apartment was about a 5 min walk. And the food!!! was fabulous! We'll be back in the future for certain!

Positone Spa a great day. St Angelo town quaint and beautiful. Garden Mortella stunning on a sunny day. Castle in Ischua Porte good. Bus transportation excellent, buses every 10 minutes, you can pay onboard. Use app Rio to Rome, excellent for travel information all around the world. Tip for travelling alone, lunch instead of dinner. Eat outside instead of dinning inside, bring a book with you. Once you begin travelling alone, the world is your oyster!!!

Capri can be crowded even late in the season.

Capri can be crowded even late in the season. The marina can become overcrowded and navigating from the ferry to your apartment can be a challenge. Skip the Funicular if the lines are long and especially if you have baggage. The porters do a great job, but the cost can add up if you have several pieces of luggage. Take a taxi to your hotel/apartment upon arrival to save yourself a lot of trouble.

A wonderful stretch of coastline despite the local drivers! Other main hazard the lack of parking places - particularly appreciative of the private parking space at our house. Despite that, accessible to Pompeii, Amalfi, Ravello, Capri etc. all of which we visited in our four night stay. Particularly good meals at Saraceno d'oro and La Taverna del Leone.
