- From US$141.71 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.0Superb - What previous guests thought, 245 reviewsResidenza La Torre is an Albergo Diffuso and, as such, our superior one-bedroom apartment was essentially a small house; no complaints there. This was our third stay in Santo Stefano and was the best yet; it lacked nothing in comparison to the Albergo Diffuso Sextantio (where we had previously stayed) and was a good deal cheaper, so definitely cost-effective. The kitchen was stocked and replenished with a good selection of breakfast foods (bread, fruit, cheese, prosciutto, pastries and more) and also had a Nespresso machine with milk frother and, crucially, a moka pot with good ground coffee. The office/reception is a few streets away in the centre of the village, but it’s a very small village and so was no problem. And when we did have a problem; our door key snapped off in the lock; I just called on Whatsapp and the guy on duty came right over with a spare key and was able to remove the stub of the old one. The first time we stayed in Santo Stefano was 2013 and it’s definitely busier than back then, but that’s a good thing being that the whole point of the Albergo Diffuso was to bring life back to an abandoned village. And it’s all relative; staying here for a few days still feels like stepping back in time to a pace and quality of life that’s a joy to experience surrounded by the beauty of this green heart of Italy.Guest review byPaulUnited States
- From US$423.57 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.0Superb - What previous guests thought, 423 reviewsWe had an absolutely fantastic stay. From the moment we arrived, the staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming. The lobby was beautifully decorated and had a lovely, relaxing vibe. Our room was spacious and spotlessly clean. The bed was incredibly comfortable - I slept like a baby each night. The bathroom was very original and well-appointed. Overall, I can't say enough good things about our experience. The location was stunning, the amenities were fantastic, and the staff went above and beyond to ensure we had an enjoyable and relaxing stay. I will definitely be returning the next time I need a rejuvenating "trip into the past" getaway!Guest review byChristosGreece
- From US$104.65 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.9Fabulous - What previous guests thought, 402 reviewsThe residence is located in a strategic position for visiting the Gran Sasso National Park. Santo Stefano di Sessanio, one of the best-preserved medieval towns, is just a 5-minute walk away, while the highly regarded tourist attraction of the Castle of Rocca Calascio is easily reachable via a trail. The residence is housed in a 17th-century building, which is a plus. The staff is extremely kind and accommodated all our requests. The restaurant is excellent, the best we tried in the the region.Guest review byClaudioUnited States

The old town has some wonderful architecture and a beautiful square full of life. The main street is stylish and people very friendly. But it was devastated in 2006 (?) by a powerful earthquake and there is still a lot of building work.Guest review bySarahSpain - 4.0
The town is being revived and restored.
The town is being revived and restored. So I appreciated the historic aspect and efforts being made to bring in tourists. The road to the town was in great shape. With that said, there is really nothing to do there. We arrived on a night, I believe it was a Wednesday when all the restaurants but 2 were closed. The better restaurant was completely booked and we had to go with the only other choice open for our large group. The food was terrible and overpriced. Nothing else was open in town for even a drink!! There are many other places to go and see in Abruzzo, this would not be one of them. Maybe in a few years when the restoration is complete.Guest review byAnonymous - 10.0
Nice starting point for exploring Gran Sasso.
Nice starting point for exploring Gran Sasso. There are only three restaurants in the town, all of them very good ( we tried all three) but considering slim options advanced booking is a must ; we also had a feeling that they cater for only one sitting per evening. Be sure to visit also Ristoro Muciante which s some 20 km away - a self catering facility where you buy their meet, cheese and side dishes as well as drinks and grill them by yourself ( during peak season be ready for a long waiting lines - we were there after the main ferragosto time but still waited for half an hour).Guest review byMarjutkaSlovenia - 10.0

Capestrano is a beautiful old town in Abruzzo, I recommend to visit the old town, the castle and the nearby lake Capodacqua (recommended to book online for the tour). I also recommend to try the local food (trout and crayfish).Guest review bySirenaItaly - 10.0

Take 3-4 days to stay in L'Aquila and visit the city, the castle, go to the mountains. This charming small town has a lot to offer if you're looking for a little bit of relaxation, connection with the nature and with the authenticity of the Italian life style.Guest review byTeodoraRomania - 10.0

We expected luxury in a uniquely rustic environment and we weren’t disappointed. The view from our room window was stunning as was the view from the restaurant terrace. Candle light created a warm atmosphere. But the highlight was the quality of the service. A positive culture which was contagious amongst the guests. Thanks to all. We ate at ala Locanda each night and were very happy with the diversity and quality of the menu. We hiked to Rocca Calascio, drove to the observatory and walked, had lunch at the refuge on Campo Imperatore where we BBQed our meat bought from the refuge. On the way back to Rome we visiting L’Aquila, the sophisticated capital of the region.Guest review byStephanieAustralia - 10.0

This is essentially a review of Fonte Cerreto, as the hotel I stayed in is not in Assergi. Fonte Cerreto is very small, and is really just the base for exploring the Gran Sasso in the summer. It is probably also a good base for exploring the ski area in the winter. I ate in the hotel, but I think the trattoria a few hundred yards down the road would have provided better food.Guest review byDeryk MayerItaly - 10.0

My third visit to this beautifully situated city was my first since the earthquake of 2009. The city with its bounty of beautiful, historic palazzi and churches is still in a state of recovery, but its spirit seems undiminished, and I found my memories of its liveliness and as home to some of the nicest people in Italy still accurate. Because of the broad range of reconstruction still going on, driving can be a challenge in the city center, which makes arriving by public transport from Rome, Sulmona or Pescara a better option. Walking, once you do arrive, will prove to be its own reward. There are still numerous venerable cafes and some very good restaurants. If I had to recommend one it would be Antologie on via Vestusti, a short walk from the Piazza Duomo.Guest review byJohnItaly
