9/3/25 It's not the Rome I remember (my 8th trip but traveling with a first timer) It has become over run by tourists, actually taking away from the beauty. You fight crowds at every turn and miss the beauty. There is no such thing as finding that gem of a Restaurant down an untraveled allley anymore. Maybe I've gotten older, but strollinng at night when the tourists are back at their accomodations wasn't all that magical anymore. The Vatican was disappointing in that most areas of the Basilica was a barricaded pathway to herd the masses through. You didn't enjoy just roaming through looking at everything like in the past. I don't know what it was abouit the lighting in the Sistine Chapel, but it wasn't as I remembered. Then let's talk about the Piazza... not able to walk freely through or linger... in fact, wasn't accessable at all. In a word: SAD Coloseum: Nothing exciting or fun outside anymore. The Culture has been lost, sloppily dressed, demanding tourists, and restaurant menus are all the same. Piazzas filled with more tables than space. If I ever return ... it will be in a very Off Season.

Large spacious room with large light filled modern bathroom and great variety of breakfast food. Luana & Petro were so kind and hospitable even walking me to an ATM and the local Pizzeria Galleria a few metres down the road. Home is close to beach. Having a cash driver affiliated to their lovely home is so useful and helpful. Highly recommend staying here each time in Roma

There is no easy walking access to the cruise port or terminals, you will have to book a taxi OR take a bus from the train station to the port (40e). It is confusing and not well detailed by the cruise companies - do your research. Taxi from the train station to an apartment is equally a hassle (30e minimum).

Viterbo is a lovely town to visit and it is definitely a trip worth it if you want to escape all the hassle and bustle of Rome. Viterbo has a unique charm and I fell in love with it when I walked the Via Francigena. I stayed in Orchard Bed & Breakafast in Viterbo centre on the Via francigena path as it is available for pilgrims. Viterbo has more than one Spa resort. There are plenty of restaurants and the city is booming with vibrance and cafes. staying 3 nights in Viterbo was definitely worth it. The Park is lovely and the people are friendly. You do not have to worry about theft or other annoying misdemeanors. I would recommend 'Pizza Express'. It is an Indian restaurant, reasonable price and offers a wide range of dishes!!!

Gaeta is a lovely beach town that sits half between Rome and Naples. The beach is flat white sand and superb for swimmers of all ages. Crystal clear waters awaits you. Gaeta is split in two. The old town near the Port and the newer town on Serapo Beach. Its a perfect place for a summer holiday

We were in Terracina the last two weeks of June.

We were in Terracina the last two weeks of June. We experienced a local feel with few tourists. the old town is fantastic. We rented electric bikes, which is recommended. Then you can get around easily. A trip up to the temple went like a dream in the heat. We also cycled out to the Cantina Sant'Andrea winery. It took approx. one hour one way. A wonderful trip and a great visit where we tasted many good wines. One should also enter a trip to Ponza. The ferry departs from the city centre. An incredibly cozy island. We chose to rent a boat when we were out there, so that we could take a trip to the outside of the island and swim in the crystal clear water. It was magical! We only took a day trip, but we should have included an overnight stay at Ponza.

Villa d’Este was amazing and had waterfalls to rival Palace of Versailles. The walk through Villa Gregoriana gardens down the side of the hill to the bottom of the waterfalls was a solid hike and not for the feeble. Definitely take a couple of hours to visit Hadrian’s Villa (aka Villa Adriana) which had amazing historical half crumbling palace and ornamental lake.
