Sulmona ws a really nice, off the beaten path town to visit...
Sulmona ws a really nice, off the beaten path town to visit in Italy. It is the "home" of confetti, candied covered almonds, etc. We were able to tour museum factory where they have made these since the early 1700s. The old town itself is worth touring with ancient churches, many different street vendors, the farmer's market, etc. The town has some wonderful restaurants with authentic local cuisine.Guest review byKatherineUnited States - 8.0

The town is beautiful and green with trees lining the street. It is quiet in town after the Terme was shut down. If you are a hiker though, you landed in paradise. Gorgeous hikes in the Orfento Gorge and surrounding mountains. Also plenty of interesting and beautiful hermitages to explore. The sea is also not far away if the beach is calling. there is at least one good Bar/Coffee shop with fresh croissants and good cappuccino. Also a couple of good restaurants.Guest review byCoriedaItaly - 10.0

Pacentro is a picturesque village nestled on a mountain side. It is a paradise for young children to explore the many pedestrian only alleyways that run through the village. It has retained its quaintness and medieval characteristics and the restored castle tower is a must visit.Guest review byCarascon - 4.0
The bed was terrible.
The bed was terrible. The old style spring mattress that wa felt while sleeping. Extremely uncomfortable. We asked for 4 blankets to put on top of the mattress but it still was uncomfortable. We didn't sleep for 3 nights. The water flow from the shower very poor, It was trickling not flowing.. At some stages the water switched from cold to hot Shocking....Guest review byMariaAustralia - 10.0

Caramanico Terme is like many spa towns in Italy - its glory...
Caramanico Terme is like many spa towns in Italy - its glory days ended a few decades ago when the government cracked down on the racket of subsidising holidays in such places through the national health system. So the hotels here have not seen a lot of investment recently. On the other hand their simplicity is matched by their good value. It still has a lot going for it - it is located in a beautiful area in the mountains of Abruzzo, close to the Maiella National Park, and is re-inventing itself as a centre for trekking, canoeing and such things. The old town - downhill from the modern town with its 1960s-era hotels, is picturesque. In the main street you will find a few bars, a couple of restaurants and a "birreria". All those I tried were good. If you want to spend a couple of days walking in spectacular scenery, and don't mind old-fashioned but hospitable accommodation, this would be an excellent place in which to base yourself.Guest review byStewartAustralia - 10.0
