Torino is a great city for everything - sightseeing, food,...
Torino is a great city for everything - sightseeing, food, cultural experiences, etc. As I have already submitted a review of Torino, in order not to repeat the same things, I will write about our visits to Genova and Novara. Genova is situated to the south of Torino - two hours by train. We went there to visit the Aquarium, and we weren't disappointed. However, apart from that, I wouldn't recommend it as it reminds me of Napoli - polluted, dirty, too many immigrants, not much to see. If I have to give it a rating 10/10 for Torino and 7/10 for Genova. I could add one mark for the famous Pesto Genovese, which you can purchase anywhere in the world. For a much better experience, I would recommend visiting Novara. Situated to the east of Torino - one hour by train (in the direction of Milano), you will find there the famous Basilica di San Gaudenzio, and more precisely, the Cupola (the dome). At 121 metres tall, it is one of the tallest domes in the world. More importantly, tourists can book a climb of the cupola (up to 100 metres), which is a once in a lifetime experience. Although not as big as Torino, Novar, for me, is much better city to visit than Genova.Guest review byPeter DTBulgaria - 10.0
Stresa is an absolutely fantastic place.
Stresa is an absolutely fantastic place. A place where you can relax, spending unforgettable moments on the Borromeo Islands as well as strolling along the promenade. It is a small but very charming town, full of terraces where you can eat very well at reasonably priced rates. From here you can reach other beautiful locations: Arona and Baveno, the latter as beautiful as Stresa. The food is very good in the old town center. There I also had very good and very varied ice cream.Guest review byValentinaRomania - 10.0
Alba has everything you need.
Alba has everything you need. Shops, restaurants and all amenities. There is free parking in the large carpark near the station. The older part of town is very pretty and full of wine and truffle shops. We did a wine tasting at the historic Pio Cesare which you need to organise in advance.Guest review byElizabethUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Verbania is a really good base for a stay on Lake Maggiore.
Verbania is a really good base for a stay on Lake Maggiore. It has 2 parts - Intra where the main ports are, and Pallanza. There are lots of boats leaving and arriving every day at Intra, both passenger-only and ferries with cars, so very useful for exploring other parts of the lake. Intra has a nice sea front and an old town with little courtyards and cafes dotted all over it. The highlight of Pallanza is Villa Taranto, the botanic gardens. Well worth a visit.Guest review byLenoraUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Baveno is a town of human scale.
Baveno is a town of human scale. It's position on the lake in the Borromean gulf means the it is very well connected with ferries. At the time I visited (September) Ferries run around the sights of the lake centre every half hour, and twice a week they run up to Locarno and Ascona in Switzerland (well worth a look. The lake navigation company don't advertise it but they do a week holiday pass which is good for unlimited journeys over the entire length of the lake for 95 Euro per week. If you are going to be getting around by ferry predominantly, this is outstanding value. For comparison, on Lake lucerne and Lake Geneva, the ferry company charge 90 Euros per day for an open pass. Baveno doesn't overplay the tourist card in terms or pricing. An espresso can be had for 1.30 Euro, a Cappucino for 2.50 Euro. The town is well served by Uber (who are more reliable than the local taxi firms I dealt with, and considerably lower cost). Don't miss the Borromeo islands (and Villas) or the botanical garden at Villa Taranto. If you have a head for heights try the bucket lift (Funivia) at Laveno for some great views over the lake. Look out also for Sunday Lunchtime music (chamber music or soft jazz generally) in towns around the lake and modern art exhibitions at Villa Giulia in Pallanza. An exhibition of work by Ugo Nespolo was incredibly good, and the ticket also gives access to Museo Paesaggio with some interesting bronzes and landscapes On the northern shores of the lake, Cannobio is a lovely little town, well worth a visit. and Cannero is a (better?) alternative to Luino on Market days. On the Swiss lakeshore, personally I prefer Ascona to Locarno, principally because of size and a more Italian vibe but both are worth visiting.Guest review byJohnUnited Kingdom - 10.0
I have been going to Cannobio for nearly thirty years it is...
I have been going to Cannobio for nearly thirty years it is a little gem on Lago Maggiore and is the essence if an Italian town. There are not many English or UK tourists, which makes it good to practise Italian. It sits on the lake with an amazing Sunday market and emits a feeling of comfort and home for me I should say its horrible to keep it a little secret but it is a great place to visit with amazing restaurants and good quality food with prices for all budgets and campsites tooGuest review byLouiseUnited Kingdom - 8.0

We wanted a smaller, quieter town with some historic interest and Asti was exactly that. We thoroughly enjoyed being there. We spent two days investigating Asti and its museums, which was about right. The station also gave easy access for a day in Genoa.Guest review byAlan BrowneUnited Kingdom - 10.0

We arrived by train at a beautiful but mostly abandoned train station (unfortunate because it is a beauty!!) Town is on a surfboard-shaped plateau with beautiful bridges that access it by car or train. I did a walk around the whole plateau and was awe-struck by the beautiful old buildings and surrounding valleys. Plenty of coffee shops and cafes/restaurants if you don't want to eat at your hotel. So glad to have made the overnight stop here on our way from Turin to Menton by train.Guest review byLelandCanada - 8.0

I was staying in Alessandria as a base to attend a wedding in a nearby town, so did not really do justice to visit all the possible sights. It seems a city with much cultural heritage including the cathedral and many churches. I had a great pizza meal at Ricci Le Nostre Pizza which was good value and I enjoyed it so much I went back there on my last night. Avoid evening walks by the river if you wan’t to avoid being bitten by midges!Guest review byJohnUnited Kingdom
