This was our absolute favourite place to stay after staying all over Italy. The courtyard filled with incredible plants is simply heavenly and comfortable. Staff were about the nicest people in the world, we had such a warm and friendly greeting. We used the shuttle service and we were so happy with our cheerful and warm drivers. The staff took care of our every need, and were always eager to help. The breakfast was also the best that we'd had anywhere, so many delicious and homemade choices from Italian breakfast to American breakfast, so worth it. Location was perfect for exploring Catania, as soon as you step outside you see beautiful buildings and a fountain! The rooms were so spacious and comfortable and quiet, the bathrooms were gigantic! Everything was provided for us beyond expectation. Even if Catania isn't on your must-see list, it's worth travelling here just to stay in this hotel, we hope to stay here again.

FAQs about hotels in Sicily

An Island of Intrigue

The largest Italian island, Sicily has long been a place of mystery and intrigue, coveted by civilisations. Its Greek history is most evident at Agrigento whose UNESCO World Heritage-listed Valley of the Temples has amazingly well-preserved Greek temples.

Also important to Greece was Siracusa. Archimedes was born here and there is a theatre and necropolis to explore. However, the most spectacularly located Greek theatre is at Taormina. Set on a hill overlooking the glorious Mediterranean Sea, this theatre points towards Mount Etna smoking away in the distance above Catania. Picturesque Taormina is one of the most popular Sicily resorts and down below there are some wonderful Giardini Naxos hotels on the beach, available on Booking.com.

Another resort boasting some of the best Sicily hotels for families is fabulous Cefalù. Home to a lovely beach, this small town is dramatically located at the foot of a mountain. To the north-west are the Aeolian Islands (also known as the Lipari Islands), volcanic islands with plunging cliffs and secret coves.

Back on the main island, the capital Palermo is a seductive mix of amazing architecture and laidback life. Trapani to the west is known for its salt flats, whereas Messina to the east is where trains drive straight onto the ferry to Reggio Calabria on the Italian mainland.

Incredible stay! The staff made us feel welcomed and like family, they went above and beyond to cater to our every need. The facilities were impeccable and the thermal pools took away all our stress. The food was fresh, delicious and healthy. The pizza was actually the best we've had in Sicily, we have been travelling around the island so this is a big claim to make! The only problem is we didn't want to leave the accommodation to explore the surrounding area! Internet was great and we were able to get work done.

This is my second time at this resort. It is so peaceful, surrounded by trees. Beach is amazingly beautiful. Pools- you are spoilt for choice. The animation team is great!!!We had a soft spot for Tommaso, he was so humble and kind and funny ...but truly all of them were great 😁 The staff at the pool bar were always gentle and professional too. Perfect place if you want to relax, especially with kids. Kids clubs are amazing, however kids need to know Italian, as most of the team are Italian speaking only.

Everything was perfect! Small but beautiful beach, the pool area is really good with amazing view. So you can choose between pool and beach, both are very good. The rooms are large, spacy and very comfortable, with balconies facing sea and beatiful view to Etna and Isola Bella. There is big TV, coffee machine. I especially liked separate wardrobe room, which is spacy enough, lots of mirrors. The shuttle bus to city center is very comfortable.

Returning to Città del Mare after 30 years was pure joy, this time as a mother of four. The rooms are spacious and well equipped, with stunning sea views. The resort is huge, full of beautiful gardens and greenery. Our kids absolutely loved the famous toboggan into the sea, and the pools kept everyone happy. The animation team made sure there were fun, varied programs for all ages. A perfect family holiday - we all enjoyed every moment!

Palermo Is one of the most fascinating cities in the world an absolute layer cake of history from the Greeks through the Romans then the Arabs followed by the Normans, The French the Spanish and last an important part of Italy. The city is dirty and sometimes chaotic but that doesn't matter It's all part of this charm of the city. Do not miss some of the spectacular places like the Palazzi Normani with the incredible Palatine Chapel, The Archaeological Museum and the street markets, Some of the best in the world. A good tip is to get a transit pass from a tobacco shop and the Moovit app for your phone, but also be prepared for lots of walking. Restaurants abound especially in prime tourist season, The street food is very good in the markets and there are also very fine dining Restaurants of course. And lastly I would recommend not going during prime tourist season from September through November unless you love crowds of gawking instagramming tourists. April through June are very pleasant times to visit, and even winter is not very cold by northern climate standards. July and August can get very hot though.

The place is filthy. Streets full of rubbish. Graffiti on most of the buildings, Some buildings look abandoned, then you see people coming out of them. I don't know how they live there. It's a pity since they are so antique. Would be beautiful if cared for. Not to mention the people. They try to rip you off all the time. Especially taxi drivers. Tourists need to be super cautious. And the traffic is horrible. You have to pay attention how you cross the road even though you are on a zebra crossing. They keep driving no matter what. If you go to the beach you get annoyed by the multiple individuals trying to sell you something or even give you a message. They don't leave you in peace. Two restaurants we loved were Cafe/Restaurant Duomo and D.O.C. Nice food and atmosphere. I highly reccomend. There are nice places for shopping too. Via Etnea full of shops, porte Di Catania and centro Sicilia excellent spots. I reccomend Etnapolis and Etnaland too. There is an awsome open air market everyday not to be missed. Not to mention Etna, a must go.

Beautiful town on the hillside with fantastic views from the cable car, public gardens and other areas. Lots of shops for those wishing to buy clothes, lots of places to eat and drink. Cable car essential and cheap. Lots of accommodation available, would chose this area rather than "the other side of the road", Mazzaro quite small.

    The Old Town was great.

The Old Town was great. Loved walking around the little streets, going to the Cathedral and the nearby Mandralisca Museum. Had gelato every day. The marzipan fruits looked beautiful and tasted great. While there were quite a few tourists there, it didn't feel overcrowded. Down the main street but a bit out of the Old Town (but still within walking distance) were a children's clothing shop and an adult and childrenswear shop that had T shirts that were a reasonable price to take home to family - not like the expensive souvenir ones. A man in a tourist shop told us about them.

Great base for day trips (to Erice/Egadi Islands/even Marsala), but the city itself is worth visiting! A very walkable location, especially from where we stayed [SAT Appartamenti Locazioni turistiche brevi-G&P]. We were told to try Busiate so we did in so many different styles haha. We ate these seasoned fried chick pea patties that looked like fried halloumi or tofu that had we not spoken to our hosts we would not have known what we were eating! I left this too late and can't recall everything... Spectacular views as per for Sicily. We happened to be there for the opening of "Radio Mare" this cute cafe that becomes a hi-fi listening bar in the eveniing... super vibey, defo check it out. Every shop and restaurant we stumbled in was worth visiting. It was a lively city that was a good blend of tourist and locals!

Indications for people who driving there are poor, I was lost, I pass in front the entrance without realizing it, poor indicators. I stop and I find another car lost too. The car parking too expensive, the entrance tickets expensive, I went really early before there were too many people, I was able to take selfies for the more important monuments without any wait line. You must be ready with plenty of water, if you are going in summer time because its a really long walk under very strong summer lights. I guess you must see it at least once on your life, like everything relevant from our pass times. Obviously I am a simply tourist without knowledge about architecture. For those that understand I am sure must be fascinating.

Beautiful town, full of life at night.

Beautiful town, full of life at night. Easily walkable, flat streets. Beach is nice and long, with multiple free areas. It's a gorgeous scene with the huge mountains, and lighthouse at the other end. It is definitely more of a touristy feel, as we went in August. Definitely explore up and down the peninsula, as there's excellent beaches and coves to swim at as well!

Alot of people do not speak english, and everything there...

Alot of people do not speak english, and everything there including street sign are in ilalian. Had an excustion to the godfather on a hop on hop off bus(green) I had ordered from Get Your Guide and went 2 hours early and the direction they gave us was wrong and couldnt find the place for pick up in mountain. Had no wifi on my phone, even when i paid extra to get itWIFI on my phone. Tried to ask people but on one knew where to go. Traffic was terrible where the address was to pick up. So i ended up not making the excurion, and company is not giving me a refund. Also the rest RISTORANTE SABBIE D' ORO charged us $162.00(euro) for a 1 lobster. They stood over us until we order, couldnt speak english and the menu said 18 euros for a one lobster, thought that was a good price. Pressed us with extra stuff we did not want to order, because we could not understand them. Then we go to pay there system was down and couldnt take no visa or MC. Our bill was $350 eros. We had to go to atm machine and they charged us $75 to take money out of machine. BAD EXPERINCE!!!!!! I would suggest not to go there.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time at this place.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time at this place. It was a very friendly environment, and unlike the main island, there was no trash littering the area. It was great to see that the main mode of transportation there was by bicycles. The food was also great, but it was a bit overpriced.
